Advertisement Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NigelG Posted July 14, 2024 Share #22222 Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) I thought at first it might be the rather obscure Toyota Publica c1965 as the crop makes the car look very “saloon(sedan)-like” and the wheels have a slight Japanese 60s vibe….but at the risk of looking foolish I’m now thinking it looks like an early Sunbeam Tiger with a fitted hard top (the grille lower corner/indicator lamp seem very familiar) Edited July 14, 2024 by NigelG
dkCambridgeshire Posted July 14, 2024 Share #22223 Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) Not a Tiger Nigel but you're so close you're bound to identify the 1968 Sunbeam Alpine with your next post. NigelG Posted July 14, 2024 Share #22224 Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) It’s amazing sometimes how a clever crop - even when showing a lot of the car - can throw your perception (allowing for the fact I looked at it on a phone) I really was initially looking at dull 60s Japanese saloons till I started to look a bit closer… I’ll tr to find something later - currently laid up with a bad Covid infection Edited July 14, 2024 by NigelG 3
Perkin Posted July 16, 2024 Share #22225 Posted July 16, 2024 The original crop could also have been of an Alpine.
NigelG Posted July 16, 2024 Share #22226 Posted July 16, 2024 OK - any thoughts on this blurry crop (focus point was rather closer to the camera...) Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted July 16, 2024 Share #22227 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Could it be a Coombs Jaguar 3.8 Mk.2, although I am not at all sure about the air intake, which looks much more VW engine cover like but the only one with louvres is the Samba and the louvres are different. NigelG Posted July 16, 2024 Share #22228 Posted July 16, 2024 Not a Jaguar of any flavour (but the louvers are "important")
Ivan Goriup Posted July 16, 2024 Share #22229 Posted July 16, 2024 Maybe not a Gmünd or Stuttgart-built Porsche 356, but maybe a Brazilian-built Porsche or VW, or perhaps even a German coachbuilder's 356. JZG

Yes Wilson has it exactly right - and Pippy is correct too - that's why the louvres were "important" as they are not sitting at their usual "500" angle in the photo. It was parked right next to the Lincoln Continental Givency Edition that I posted before, on the street in London, and made an amusing "Little and Large" comparison. I know which one I would have preferred to drive home in! Welcome, dear visitor!
