The rear axle is non-driven and unlike some of their other RR “modifications” with extra doors/seats there is no more passenger space so the reason for the works escapes me…

Hopefully less hideous than this one!

The bar isn't set very high so that shouldn't be too difficult......😸......

That truly is an absolute Horror!

Correct, Stuart.  Not a Monaro, but the poor man's version, an early 1970s second generation Holden Torana GTR.

The first version, from the mid 60s, was largely a rebadged British Vauxhall Viva.  It was then further developed with a straight 6, 3300cc engine.  A review I read of a later version commented that a slit in the dashboard must be for seasick pills for the way the car rolled.  The hotter version, the XU-1 was used for racing - the head boy at my school used to race one with his father.  It was Holden's biggest seller until the Commodore came along in the late 1970s.

I always thought they were rather horrible.  This one was clearly well loved.

I was allocated a two door Holden Torana XU while on temporary transfer to General-Motors Holdens at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne.  While there I also drove the four door version which I preferred.  Neither suffered from body roll.  The two door XU was a hard riding little beast, but I was younger and more flexible back then, however the four door saloon was my favourite as its more compliant suspension was better suited to Australian roads.

Open to anyone who has a car to post.

I don't know what compels me, but I'll take another crack at this......this time a fairly exotic one-off from a famous, honored marque deeply involved in various forms of racing and quite successful in most of them.

I emphasize, this is a one-off, therefore brand, approx. time of manufacture and any details that might confirm that you indeed have an inkling what it is will do.

It proved quite 'elusive' during the week it visited my usual haunt, the various events and Concourse in Monterey during Car Week, never staying in one place long enough for me to meet the owner, 'cover' the car properly and find out a little about it, consequently this is the only post-worthy image I have of this little treasure, taken at Thursday's 'Tour d'Elegance', the voluntary 55-mile driving stint of of participants in Sunday's Concours.

After 'the reveal' I will provide a verbatim copy of the text that accompanied this car's image in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elelgance.

Zagato body is probably correct.  Probably also Italian, and perhaps with a FIAT basis.   I would guess late 1950s to 1960s, and perhaps OSCA,  I look forward to seeing it.

BTW:  With your huge collection of terrific, interesting car photos I always look forward to seeing your mystery cars -- So please step-in often when a winner passes on posting the next mystery car.

You are all correct......to an extent.

Michael's guess identifies this car as Italian from the '60s, which it is - but it's not an Alfa.

Perkin asks if it  has a Zagato body - which it has.

Stuart opines that it has a Zagato body, is Italian, and also correctly guesses that it is from a rather generous time span of 20 years in which it was built (it was created in '64).... but neither FIAT nor OSCA  were involved.

I'm hoping for additional guesses, and to facilitate participation by more of the 'usual suspects',.......here's another cropped clue.

As per @pippy It’s better named the Lancia Sport Zagato…which somehow fell off my Zagato radar 🤔

I thought the first crop was set to take out a “double bubble” roof so implied Z but the second crop I couldn’t place.

There’s a good summary from its sale at RM Sotheby’s:

Sadly I feel the bonnet bulges to accommodate the two IDF/IDA Webers of the Nardi conversion don't improve the aesthetics.

Certainly not one I recognized! Interesting to see the Flavia flat four in racing trim. That was, to me, a very unusual Lancia engine configuration.

Not forgetting the later Gamma Lancia, the one whose engine self destructed if you left it on full steering lock for more than a second or two. My father always wanted to get a Lancia Flavia Coupé but ended up with a Mercedes 220SEC instead, when my mother started quibbling about the lack of space in the Lancia. Sadly the Mercedes was very badly damaged by a drunk driver in another car, when it was just a few weeks old. It should have been written off but the chiselling insurance company insisted on a repair. It never drove straight thereafter.
