NigelG Posted November 29, 2024 Share #22881 Posted November 29, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry I meant the white car that is “behind” in the photo not “behind” in the physical space. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Tbh I am surprised if anyone thought that I thought a Gen1 Civic was in “Space 1999”…😉
Advertisement Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Hi NigelG, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted November 29, 2024 Share #22882 Posted November 29, 2024 I suspect Nigel means the car to the right of the Sleeper car. I wonder if it is a Vauxhall SRV-1 concept car from around 1970. Wilson
stuny Posted November 29, 2024 Share #22883 Posted November 29, 2024 It is a concept car, but I didn't find it interesting enough to shoot and make note of. It's at the Southward Car Museum in New Zealand. Here's their URL: https://www.southwardcarmuseum.co.nz/
NigelG Posted November 29, 2024 Share #22884 Posted November 29, 2024 No…that was a beautiful Wayne Cherry design! Given the proximity to the “Sleeper” car I’m thinking it’s from a film/tv production…

NigelG Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22887 Posted December 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry Stu I thought we were still trying to identify the angular white car to the RH side of your shot. It has a bit of a “life size” Gerry Anderson feel…or maybe a wacky Ogle design?
wlaidlaw Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22888 Posted December 2, 2024 It's not Lady P's Rolls. I was always amazed given how precious RR were about their image, that the Andersons were not sent a "cease and desist order. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! NigelG Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22889 Posted December 2, 2024 Particularly as Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward directly referred to FAB 1 as “the Rolls-Royce” by name….
wlaidlaw Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22890 Posted December 2, 2024 If it had been a Daimler, I would understand as Lady P's car was actually somewhat more tasteful than some of Lady Docker's diamond encrusted gargoyles. Wilson
a.j.z Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22891 Posted December 2, 2024 The pink RR apparently is built on the chasis of the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 F1 car from the 70s ...
wlaidlaw Posted December 2, 2024 Share #22892 Posted December 2, 2024 The owners of the Tyrrell P34 and the Shadow Mk.1 AVS Can-Am car have had great difficulty sourcing new 10" diameter racing tyres. I believe Goodyear who made the originals, had to look in their scrap bin to find the moulds. I had a similar issue when I was trying to rebuild the Midas GT factory race car, which had 12" wheels. I could not source 12" diameter racing tyres so I asked FIA/FIVA if I could use 13" wheels and tyres instead. With their usual "how can I be of no help to you whatsoever today" attitude, their answer was of course, no. Wilson
stuny Posted December 3, 2024 Share #22893 Posted December 3, 2024 I suspect nobody will get that white car, and I certainly have no data on it. I even tried the museum's website. So, Nigel, want to post the next one?

Way back in the mists of time I used to have the TV-21 magazine(*) delivered and I remember reading a short article which featured a conversation between Gerry Anderson's studio and someone high-up (presumably?) at R-R and it seems they were more than happy for Lady P. to be seen to be driving a 'Rolls Royce'. Philip. * An explanation for non-Brits......😸......https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Century_21 EDIT : Just for fun I've had a google regarding FAB-1 and here's a cut'n'paste from a part of the entry; "On the choice of make, series co-creator Gerry Anderson said: "Considering [Penelope's] personality, and the role she played in International Rescue, it could only be a Rolls-Royce." AP Films (APF) approached Rolls-Royce Limited, which consented to the use of its brand. In 2004, Rolls-Royce's head of public relations in the 1960s said that the company "couldn't see any harm in [APF's] request, and as the series was aimed at children we thought it would be good for the cars – give them a modern image and, you never know, inspire a child to own one, one day." In return for its co-operation, the company asked that all on-screen references to the make of the car use the full brand name "Rolls-Royce", rather than the abbreviation "Rolls"...
