wlaidlaw Posted November 10, 2024 Share #22790 Posted November 10, 2024 The bonnet/hood looks like a Packard 1404 Super Eight from around 1936. Wilson
stuny Posted November 10, 2024 Share #22791 Posted November 10, 2024 I think you might know a thing or two about cars. This one is a '35, virtually identical to the '36. I'll bet you can get the extra credit, too. Your turn. Welcome, dear visitor! Best Regards, Michael Fred Astaire may have had one, but this one belonged to Raniere Grimaldi. Who wants to step in for Wilson?
wlaidlaw Posted November 11, 2024 Share #22795 Posted November 11, 2024 I thought that this Packard belonged to Prince Rainier's father Pierre Duke of Valentinois. Because he is rarely talked about in Monaco, having been outed as gay and divorced Rainier's mother, Princess Charlotte of Monaco in Paris in 1930. Both being gay and divorced made him persona non grata in Monaco and Charlotte's father threatened to shoot him if he reappeared in Monaco after the divorce. He was permitted to return to Monaco in the mid 1930's and granted a pension by his former father in law. Wilson
stuny Posted November 11, 2024 Share #22796 Posted November 11, 2024 You’re probably correct. I assume Raniere took possession since it resides in his collection at the harbor in Monaco.

a.j.z Posted November 11, 2024 Share #22799 Posted November 11, 2024 Haha, would be interesting to hear what the artist thinks about this guess. No, the basis is a real car and if you look closely one part or the other may look familiar.
wlaidlaw Posted November 11, 2024 Share #22800 Posted November 11, 2024 I think it is a European 70s/80s car from the appearance of the tail lights. Very plain jane and smaller than today's lights. Wilson
