Advertisement Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Hi stuny, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted October 16, 2024 Share #22702 Posted October 16, 2024 This is a Peugeot 402 Darl'mat Legère Special Sport Roadster designed according to one source by Jean Andreau but other sources say the designers were Georges Paulin and coachbuilder Marcel Pourtout, which given the appearance, seems more likely to me. They used a pushrod 2L 4 cylinder engine, mated to a Cotal electrically operated gearbox (actually a British Wilson pre-selector gearbox with the cable controlled shifts replaced by solenoids. Both Wilson and Cotal were owned by Anthony Lago, who also owned Talbot-Lago). Lovely looking cars, slightly let down by a rather pedestrian 4 cylinder engine, supposedly with 70 BHP but probably nearer 60. There was a story that Peugeot had intended to replace the 4 cylinder engine with a 3 litre 6 cylinder but WW2 happened. Cotal gearboxes, unlike their reputation, are actually pretty reliable and a pleasure to drive. Our Figoni and Falaschi (Phoney and Flashy) bodied Delahaye 135S, with interior by Louis Vuitton (originally owned by Coco Chanel) had a Cotal with a tiny stitched red leather football on the end of the 10cm long gear lever, which works in a pod just under the steering wheel. stuny Posted October 16, 2024 Share #22703 Posted October 16, 2024 Of course, Wilson got it. This car is at the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia, and worth a visit if you're into cars (especially racing cars), and are anywhere near Philadelphia. Your turn Wilson. wlaidlaw Posted October 17, 2024 Share #22705 Posted October 17, 2024 I will pass the baton to Ivan, as he got Peugeot before I filled in the final details. Wilson
stuny Posted October 17, 2024 Share #22706 Posted October 17, 2024 Since Wilson has passed the baton, and Ivan has passed the baton due to his being busy with construction at his home, who would like to step in and post the next mystery car?

IkarusJohn Posted October 19, 2024 Share #22708 Posted October 19, 2024 I’m guessing with the button down upholstery and all that brightwork that it’s American. How about a Cadillac?
stuny Posted October 19, 2024 Share #22709 Posted October 19, 2024 Not American, not Cadillac.
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted October 20, 2024 Share #22710 Posted October 20, 2024 (edited) British tax disc in the holder, so a car in the UK probably (doesn't mean the manufacturer is British though). Edited October 20, 2024 by Graham (G4FUJ)
wlaidlaw Posted October 20, 2024 Share #22711 Posted October 20, 2024 The bonnet shape looks similar to that of a Napier from around 1905. Wilson
stuny Posted October 20, 2024 Share #22712 Posted October 20, 2024 Not British, so not Napier. A bit younger than Wilson's guess.

stuny Posted October 21, 2024 Share #22719 Posted October 21, 2024 Just one year off on the date, but not the right car. I know you've been to the venue where I shot this car, though it might not have been on display.
