I remember this car from the Gran Turismo series!! Awesome.

i did a lot of research on TK cars (Mr Tomita and Mr Kaira) as they did modified versions of a lot of Japanese cars. We got a few in NZ and I owned a TommyKaira B4 (Subaru Legacy).

I documented some of the cars that I knew of in NZ, but there must have been a lot more:

Even though it has sealed beam headlights, it is very unlikely to be from the US.  The tires and small overhang also argue against a US car of this vintage.

It's possible, Stuart, that you have missed posts #22558 and #22559......😸......

I wonder if Philips new car is a Jaguar XJ6/12 series III?...

You are so very close, Wilson, that I know by posting one further photograph the details of Series-variant and engine fitted (the answer is in there!) will become clear;

As such the only matter still unresolved is 'Which Model?' to which end this crop will provide the answer;

Here is the full image of the TommyKairaZZ . The ZZ refers to the Nissan/Datsun 2.0 Litre ZZ engine, modified with hotter cams and replacement of the complicated and less than wholly robust electronic fuel injection by 4 Keihin carburettors (180PS). There was supposed to be two successor models the ZZ-S model with 200PS and the wide body model. It is believed that only one or two prototypes of the latter models were made. They were built in a small factory unit in Norfolk, where this photo was taken. They were supposed very light at just 650 kg although I very much doubt this figure. There is a successor model the Second Generation but this is electric (? the ZZ-EV). Having blown through $14M of investors money, inevitably the second company ceased trading in 2021.

Not a bad-looking car. Did it have a fibreglass body?

Yes designed by Takuya Yura. For those who say it is very derivative of the Lotus Elise, it actually pre-dates the Elise by a few months.

XJ12 Series 2 coupé?...

Spot on!

According to the info from the DVLA it is one of 663 examples manufactured in 1976. It is (IMO) a very handsome beast;

I had a later 1988 series III V12 Sovereign saloon, which I bought very cheaply as a stolen recovered car ex Japanese Embassy, with only 8,000 miles on the clock. As I discovered later, it had been partially stripped and then not very well rebuilt. The exceedingly  complicated HVAC system, all controlled by a myriad of pneumatic valves never worked properly and there was a tiny pinhole in the heater matrix. Other than the Morgan Three Wheeler, it was by far my most unreliable car, albeit pleasant to drive when working well if a tad on the thirsty side.

As usual for me, open to anyone to post.

I have just been very happy to put a French friend in touch today, with a British company who can supply accurate replicas of 1930s Bluemels spring spoke steering wheels. He is rebuilding his grandfather's racing 1500cc 1935 Riley MPH, with an ERA modified straight six engine. This car last ran in the 1950's, having been hidden away during the war but was very carefully laid up in a bone dry barn, with the engine having oil squirted into the spark plug holes and turned over regularly. The Wilson Pre-selector gearbox and the final drive were filled up right to the top so that condensation did not rust the internals. The body has fared less well with a lot of woodworm in the ash body framing and serious corrosion of the alloy bodywork. His father who was a diplomat always intended to restore it on his retirement but sadly developed ALS soon after retiring. The engine is due to go to Hawker in the UK, who are ERA experts and the Wilson gearbox to Tip Top, again in the UK. He was saying it would have been easier to rebuild a Bugatti in France than this Riley, as all the experts are in the UK. He was saying he has a pile of customs forms so that he does not pay duty in both directions.

I'm happy to contribute - what are the rules? 🙂

Post a crop of a portion of a car, and state what you want identified to win the right to post the next mystery car.  Usually, those criteria are make, model and year, but sometimes there are additional ones, such as what famous person owned this car.  You may need to post other crops of the car and/or hints.

As Stuny says; the first thing to do is to post a crop of a car. The crop can be very tight or very loose (often depending on how easy the car might be to identify) and we try to guess what the car might be. If no-one seems to be getting anywhere you should post another crop. In certain cases where, for instance, the manufacturer / car is very obscure, it is helpful to provide a written clue such as "Originally more famous as a producer of Pepper Mills..."...

This carries on until the car is identified correctly and the person who names the car gets the honour of posting the next 'Puzzler'.

Have read the above you might wish to have another glance over the last page or two; you'll get the drift.

Best of good fortune!

Philip.
