Ivan Goriup Posted June 20, 2024 Share #22024 Â Posted June 20, 2024 Much too easy, Philip. By the way, I don't know if anyone else noticed that the cloned center cap of the left front wheel in post 22016 is still clearly discernible as the A-M badge - at least it is on my screen. As it happens the only Aston I've ever driven was a DB6 Vantage (with manual 'box) which belongs to a photographer whom I used to assist and who, subsequently, became a close friend. He was kind enough to surprise me on my 50th birthday by putting me on his insurance policy and handing me the car-keys along with a ticket for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Good fun it was, too! wlaidlaw Posted June 20, 2024 Share #22029  Posted June 20, 2024 I have driven a number of Astons over the years, more recently for long distances in rallies, a DB4GT Zagato (chassis #3 originally Dr. Zagato's car). They always feel slightly old fashioned in character to me, compared say with the contemporaneous Ferraris (250 GTO or say a 365GTS or 365 GTC4). They do modernise very well with my brothers DB6 Mk1 Volante as re-fettled by Richard Williams with uprated suspension and brakes plus a 12 plug head 4.7 litre Marek type 400 BHP engine, feeling very pleasant to drive with a very torquey engine. I suspect the heavy Salisbury rigid rear axle or de Dion rear axle imbues them with an older feeling character. Picture below of the DB4GTZ on the Colorado Grand rally at Leadville, CO. The gas station lady came rushing out as we were filling up, saying that we must have a leak. We were very empty when we arrived and had put nearly 60 US gallons into the Le Mans type tank, which fills the entire boot space (55 UK gallons). This car was owned after Dr. Zagato by Richard Williams and was used as the development mule for the Sanction 2 Zagato cars, with larger brakes, uprated 12 plug 4.2L engine (360 BHP) and improved suspension. It has been raced extensively in historic racing at Goodwood etc. Wilson  Welcome, dear visitor! pippy Posted June 20, 2024 Share #22030  Posted June 20, 2024 (edited) Interesting (as always!) to read about your exploits with the wonderful Astons and Ferraris that you have driven and the DB4GT-Z is obviously a very special machine! As far as the 'Mystery (😸) Car' is concerned it clearly has been far too difficult for any of you learned gentlemen to recognise so I will post another clue! As can be seen (courtesey the headlamp bezel) it was a beautifully clear day with just some scattering of light fluffy clouds. Not sure if that last piece of info helps?... Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted June 22, 2024 Share #22034  Posted June 22, 2024 Back in the dark ages, I used to race a Mk1 BN7 Healey (YMO 300). It was never very competitive, because although originally an ex-works car, when I bought it, the original alloy engine was destroyed. These were unobtainable at the time, only being found on works and ex-works cars. I therefore had to go with an iron block and bronze Laystall cylinder head. Although we developed the engine to around 210 HP, we were much heavier than the alloy engine cars and also the Mk.3 ex works cars had disc brakes on the back, compared with drums on my car. My wife learnt to drive on it. Open to anyone who wants to post. Wilson

The car is available in a choice of seven 'finishes'; four of which are Non-Colour options (Black-Gray(x2)-White) and of the other three (Red-Yellow-Blue) there isn't one whose shade-of-colour appeals to me.
