I think I must shoulder the blame for any confusion through my original post where I discounted SAAB with this slightly embarassing 'Brain-Fart'' moment;

"I was thinking 'Unusual' SAAB but, as the quiz-car seems to be front-engined..."......[blush].....

Wilson -

You continue to amaze me.  The Kaiser Darrin, or Kaiser Darrin 161 or just Darrin.  They produced about 435 of them plus about 10 prototypes.  It had a flathead straight 6, and a 3-speed transmission with overdrives.  After the earliest Corvette it was the first fiberglass sports car.  On its best day it could accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 15 seconds.  It was priced higher than a Cadillac 62, some dealers refused to buy them feeling they'd get stuck, which contributed to the demise of the Kaiser company.  The dashboard was padded (a 1st, I think), and its doors often jammed prior to them replacing the roller bearings with ones made of nylon.  Even with the replacement, they's still jam if the tracks were not spotless.  they used the underpinnings of their sedan to make the Darrin.

Your turn.

Stuart,

The interesting styling of the Darrin 161 probably did not help sales either.

Folks here is your next one which I think is really going to have you scratching your heads. It is very rare and this is the only one I have ever seen. Usual info required.

PS I have posted this photo a number of times on other websites so Googling for it would be regarded as cheating.

Saab Sonett V4?

Specifically, SAAB Sonett II with v4 engine. A lovely little car, I owned one for a short time in the late 1980s. I'd love to have another, either the Sonett II or III. :)

Reliant Mistral

Microplas Mistral cars were made by Microplas based in Mitcham Surrey (near Wimbledon) in the 1950s but one illustration ref same which shows on REDDIT likely has an incorrect ID and appears to be a later car with a suffix 'D' registration ... originally registered in 1966 as a Reliant Mistral with a 4.6L engine ??

Dunk,

Thanks for the history of the Mistral. I had assumed they were made in Tamworth, alongside the Robin three wheelers. The D registered one was the one I saw and took a picture of when it was testing at Mallory Park. It had a 289 Ford Windsor V8 according to the owner. It was certainly very rapid and was not far off keeping up down the straights with the Lola T70 Mk.3 with a 5.7L Chevrolet engine, that I was testing that day (didn't buy it as a bit too ratty with evidence of many post accident repairs). It must have been an early Mk.3 as it did not have the double rear bulkhead of the later cars (as I had retro fitted by Lola to my Donovan Chrysler Hemi engined T70 Mk.2 Spider).

Wilson, Unlikely that Microplas made this particular Reliant Mistral as by 1966 the company was making boats – but – they'd made a Scimitar car with a 6' 3" wheelbase in the 50s So maybe Reliant decided to use or had permission to use, both the Mistral and Scimitar model names as all Reliant car bodies were manufactured 'in house'.

Here's the next mystery car which should be fairly easy. Name/marque and also guess the model please.

That is interesting as when I saw it in 2012, the owner said it had a 289 Ford engine in it. It can't have been later than that, as I surrendered my race licence (needed to test at Mallory Park) because of my lumbar spine and cervical degenerative problem in 2012. Sadly I have surrendered my historic rally licence this year as well, as I would not now be able to pass the medical with stress ECG and my Porsche 911 RSR Group B rally car is up for sale.

How strange! I believe it's a 1957-'63 period Gogomobil TS 2+2 Coupe. Whether it is a 250, 300 or 400, however, is rather difficult to know with any degree of certainty...:)...

Here's a DPS I've just snapped from "The Ladybird Book of Motor Cars" (1963 edition); a book which I've owned since the mid-'60s;

I'm very sorry to read this news, Wilson, and I'm sure we all wish you the very best of good fortune going forward.

Wish I still had my copy of said Ladybird book... :)

Likewise very sorry to learn of Wilson's giving up the competition licenses and selling of that rather tasty 911.
