I will explain this apparent contradiction, when someone gets the correct model. wlaidlaw Posted May 4, 2023 Share #19625 Posted May 4, 2023 I will explain what it actually is. It was marketed to buyers as a DB6 short chassis Volante. However when experienced mechanics looked under the car, they found to their surprise that it was actually a Mk.2 DB5 short chassis not a DB6 chassis. The DB6 was only made in the long chassis length and the later Volante convertible used the longer chassis. The quite rare Mk.1 Volante cars are much sought after as they handle noticeably better than the long chassis cars and have less scuttle shake. The long chassis cars have vestigial seats in the back whereas you can see that on this car, there is only a small soft luggage area behind the rear seats. It is a very quick car with around 380 BHP. It still feels quite vintage in character, compared with say a Ferrari 365GTS of the same era or a 4 litre Maserati Mistrale Cabriolet, albeit in this guise, quicker. I think it is Dunk's turn. pippy Posted May 4, 2023 Share #19627 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I echo Dunk's thoughts; that is a very beautiful car! Normally I prefer coupe versions of cars rather than their cabriolet siblings (911s, E-Types, every Ferrari ever made etc) but this Aston could easily make it on to my shopping list... P. dkCambridgeshire Posted May 4, 2023 Share #19628 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Here's the next relatively uncommon mystery car – recently photographed being driven South on the Old Great North Road in Cambridgeshire. pippy Posted May 4, 2023 Share #19631 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) I'm intrigued by the screwed-in aluminium(?) window-trim on the door-frames; the three(?) internal air-vents below the rear window and the Swedish 'Three Crown' sticker on the rear window. The wiper-blades are not that far removed from those which were standard-equipment on my (now long-gone) 1959 Beetle and the rear-view mirror mounted on the top of the dash definitely says something...but I don't know what. I was thinking 'Unusual' SAAB but, as the quiz-car seems to be front-engined, am now merely looking forward to the next clue! P. I am a Silly Billy and as Dunk says here "...it is an 'unusual' car...". I should have taken his sentence in a more literal fashion... Obviously - and as you all probably noticed - I had a bit of a 'seniors moment' in my previous post and needed to have thought things through with a tad more clarity............ A few of these used to turn up at a number of events which I attended with the 914. "Quirky Cars of the World Unite!" sort-of-thing. I'm not sure whether I have anything to hand which I could post so will let this one run. Philip. Edited May 5, 2023 by pippy
