"Morgan" was the starter. The "+4" was the "out of the blue" element because of the classic steel wheels 😉

There are others who can exactly determine the model.

Not a three wheeler. I have known this particular car for over 50 years, although to my very considerable surprise, the owner has recently decided to sell it, which I had thought he never would.

I shall have to look at the 1938 4/4 (or 4-4 if you were in sales/marketing at that time) in the factory collection on Monday (unless yet another tour is cancelled).

The sidelight on top of the wing is the larger, later version from late 60s / early 70s fitted until sometime in the "noughties" when they were dropped as standard (to meet pedestrian safety regs).

Correct Dunk. This is a 1947 4/4 with a 1267cc Standard Special Engine (uses a made for Morgan overhead valve conversion from the original Standard side valve block but other sources say the whole engine was made specially for Morgan. It was also used on the prototype of the post war Triumph Mayflower saloon). This was made for Morgan by Standard themselves. From around 1937, this replaced the earlier Coventry Climax engine, which had become both expensive and with uncertain supply. I have known this car since I first met my then brother-in-law to be in 1968, when he was rebuilding it from a rather dilapidated state. Spare parts were very difficult to source, so as at the time he simply wanted an every day car to use, some non-original parts such as the side and rear lights will have been used. The picture below is taken by me at my nephew's wedding in 2016 and is the last time I saw the car. The other photo is one taken by my brother-in-law for an advert for the car, earlier this year (he is not a photographer but I don't have a picture of the front of the car). I think it is currently on sale at the latest H&H auction.

When my nephew started to drive off from the church in the 4/4, he initially went off in reverse. He had forgotten that this car has a Meadows gearbox with a reversed gate. Apparently this was not a popular feature with owners in 1947 (unless of course they had been Bugatti 35/51 drivers) and the Meadows box was soon replaced by a Moss gearbox, with conventional gate, similar to that fitted to Jaguars right up to the series 1 E-Type. Supposedly these gearboxes had synchromesh on 2nd (as well as 3rd and 4th) but on most Moss boxes, this had gone missing in action and to change down to 2nd, required double de-clutching. It certainly did on my 3.8L Mk.2 Saloon and on my XK150S. Rather like the Jaguars, the Moss box was fitted to Plus 4 Morgans up to the 1970's, including on the early Plus 8 cars. Graham will correct me if I am wrong but I think the Ford engined 4/4 cars mainly used a Ford gearbox. The 1961 4/4 we converted to a race car, initially had the weirdest gear change, a bit like a 2CV, where there was a long horizontal bar, which slid in and out of a tube welded to a ball joint in the bulkhead, with a knob on the end. You slid it backwards and forwards to select gears and wobbled the knob side to side to go across the gate. I seem to remember you had to lift the knob up to get reverse. We did not use that Ford gearbox and change for the race car but used a Ford close ratio "Rocket E" box with a cast aluminium remote change.
