Rona!d Posted September 22, 2022 Share #18481 Posted September 22, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Correct, Wilson! My dad had a silver 1st series 2.6ltr. as a family car, I recall many visits at the RS service dealership because my dad had RS (and more) modifications to his standard 2.6. As a kid I loved that car a lot. There was also a non-road legal blue&white monster in their garage and for many times we watched the Capri heros fighting the bimmers and Porsches at the Nordschleife, I still have my Castrol hat with Hans Heyers signature. Later he switched to the 3 ltr. series II because the family was growing and even a dog wanted to go on holiday. I have no idea how we managed to drive to Austria and Italy with parents, 2 kids, grandma, lugguage AND a midsized dog (I would need my VW bus Multivan for that). His series II Capri had a little Dymo-printed sign on the back "You´ve got oventaken by a car with a stagecoach rear axle" (in german language). In "Slingshot Yellow" - definitely a GM hue. Yes - from that hazy nervously retro US styling period that gave us the Plymouth Prowler, Chrysler PT cruiser and early muscle car “redo-s” like the Camaro, maybe all taking a cue from the success of the VW Beetle reissue. The SSR seems possibly the most ridiculous (given that the “out- there” Prowler is, well, “out-there”.) LS2 performance engine in a “blobby” pickup body meant to echo the spirit of a pedestrian 1950s truck = a curiously confused “who’s it intended for??” vehicle and very, very poor sales… Edited September 23, 2022 by NigelG
stuny Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18489 Posted September 23, 2022 I like it better than the PT Cruiser (most of which had "Limited" badges), which I really detest.
wlaidlaw Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18490 Posted September 23, 2022 You can understand the designer, as they are paid to think out of the box but the senior executive who signed off on this gargoyle of an automotive monstrosity?? The correct reaction would have been to get their staff to do a drugs test on the designer when he next arrived at work. Chrysler at least had a reasonable excuse for the Prowler, in that it was a relatively low risk/low cost trial for their new aluminium chassis architecture but GM had no excuses for this. They did not even reach 25,000 sales across both years, showing that the US public had better taste than the GM management. The rally organisers on Sunday, tried to hide it off in a corner. NigelG Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18491 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) The last manual version had c 400hp from the LS2 "Corvette" engine. Trying to visualise the Venn Diagram overlap of potential US buyers of an "slightly iffy faux retro pick up truck body" and "manual gearbox 400hp power plant" 🤣 Edited September 23, 2022 by NigelG
adan Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18492 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) RE Wilson's car: Hmmm - early 2000s, modern tech disguised as 1950s retro. Sounds like a Leica M8 to me. Let's stick with the wild color motif (although probably not factory standard), and try this...... should be able to get marque, model, and approximate year ± a few - eventually. stuny Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18493 Posted September 23, 2022 The color makes me think of eh Mary Kaye Cosmetics cars, but apears more utilitarian.
Michael Geschlecht Posted September 23, 2022 Share #18494 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) Hello Andy, The metal work looks like it might be from the second half of the 1950's or the first half of the1960's? adan Posted September 24, 2022 Share #18495 Posted September 24, 2022 Not Mary Kaye, but a definite promotional repaint. "Utilitarian" is a reasonable description. First half of 1960s is accurate.

adan Posted September 25, 2022 Share #18500 Posted September 25, 2022 Chevy is correct; pickup is correct*, but you're about 15-20 years too late (see #18494). *i.e. distant relative of your SSR - and equally odd.
