wlaidlaw Posted May 18, 2016 Share #8623  Posted May 18, 2016 This car is in their catalogue as the Mazda MX5RF, hence my earlier post. My wife looked at ordering one of these a month ago. However she worked out she had put the roof down on her previous Ford Coupé Convertible only about 10 times in the 7 years she had owned it and something more practical that she could get right away (the MX5RF would have been about a 4 to 5 month wait) and could get the dogs in was what she wanted. She has just bought an Abarth 595 Competitione instead.  Wilson

gmo Posted May 19, 2016 Share #8631  Posted May 19, 2016 Well you are all in the right direction but with the next picture you amy even be more specific as to which Porsche and in what race it is.   Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted May 19, 2016 Share #8633  Posted May 19, 2016 Ah! Now I understand the need for a locking filler cap  . The very low rev limit is interesting, given that I can rev my 1977 3.3L RSR to 7500, albeit for longevity of the main bearings, I have a soft rev limiter set at 7150.  Wilson
gmo Posted May 20, 2016 Share #8634 Â Posted May 20, 2016 Pip, Â Rothmans Porsche is correct but not the type nor the year of the Paris-Dakar. This is a winning Porsche. Â Gerd

gmo Posted May 21, 2016 Share #8636  Posted May 21, 2016 Pip,  Spot on. The picture was taken at an exhibition last year celebrating the Belgian Sports icons Jacky Ickx and Eddy Merckx. Icky drove the sister car No. 175 that year but had some problems that kept him away from the podium (that year). Over to you.  Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted May 21, 2016 Share #8637  Posted May 21, 2016 I would imagine the locking filler cap is either to stop the locals stealing your petrol or your competitors adding "a little something" to it to slow you down.
pippy Posted May 22, 2016 Share #8638  Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) Gerd, I would have loved to have seen that exhibition as much for the Eddy Merckx exhibits as for those commemorating Jacky Ickx. Truly legends, both!  OK, always with the caveat that Wilson might very well recognise this one from personal experience...  Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted May 22, 2016 Share #8639  Posted May 22, 2016 I know Ecurie Ecosse well, as my father was a friend of David Murray and I was at Merchiston School, when Ecurie Ecosse, were in Merchiston Mews both in Edinburgh. We also used to own XKD504, one of the Ecurie Ecosse D Types and according to records the D Type which has completed more races than any other D Type from 1955 to 2014. However I have not a clue what that car might be. My only thought was the Tojeiro Buick but I think that is still painted dark metallic blue.  Wilson
pippy Posted May 22, 2016 Share #8640  Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) I rather suspected there might be a strong personal 'Merchiston' connection with yourself, Wilson, so I hope you will pardon me if I feel relieved you didn't get the answer straight off the bat?  To be honest I wouldn't know how much creedence to afford the EE crest badge affixed on this particular steed. The snap was taken in what is in effect 'Park Ferme' at a local (to me in SE20) event last summer but I didn't have an opportunity to have a chat with the pilote de course for enlightenment. It might even be there as a bit of a tease considering the 'history' of the marques involved...but then again having said that I might be doing the owner a grave injustice.  One other important point is to say the colour of the bodywork is deceptive. In the previous post it is reflective of too much blue and shade which gives a very false impression. In reality it's a rather pale metallic green.  I'll provide everyone with a slightly widened 'bit' to proffer more clues and with a Photoshop-corrected much closer colour match into the bargain...  Welcome, dear visitor!
