Nice. Couldn't resist following up on these photos. I'm not usually into American Muscle cars but this stopped everyone who walked past.

Photographed this a few days ago parked at Clovelly Beach in Sydney.

I hired a 6th Generation Mustang Convertible V6 when we were on holiday in the Carolinas with my US resident family this last summer. It was supposed to have 310 BHP. They must have been "My Little Ponies" because they certainly were not evident driving the car. It felt slower than my wife's 2L diesel Ford CC3 Coupé. What a disappointment, having really looked forward to it. I think it was crippled by a very sluggish slush-box, which changed up to 6th gear when above walking pace and was geared at around 40 MPH/1000 RPM in 6th. You had to almost shove the loud pedal through the firewall to get it to kick down. The manual change was a horrible rocker switch on the side of the shift lever and I think must have sent a command via Dearborn, where they then held a committee meeting to decide whether they would allow you change gears (or not), before it eventually slurred down a gear.  :(  :(

Rentals are known to have different and lower specs to the cars purchased through a dealership..

That used to be the case but they can't do that any more, as the engine specs, power, emissions for the state of sale when new etc, are all homologated for each model. If you were offering a lower spec car for rental companies, it would need to have a separate homologation, which would be in the public domain. I checked to see if that was the case, after I got back and it wasn't. A manufacturer (or rental company) messes around with the engine settings at great risk of major trouble, as we have seen with VW. It was rented from a division of Hertz, was a Florida registered vehicle (not California, who have stricter emission regs) and Hertz just would not risk getting caught doing something like this.
