Michael figured it out. It's the chassis with running gear of a Tesla Model S. This is in an upscale mall in NJ, where they have the chassis at the front of the store and a full car in further. your turn Michael.

This one should not tax people's brains too much, even though I have blanked out some of the clues. As it is so easy, I am not going to give any clues so make AND model please.

500K then?

Correct. I would also have accepted 380K or 540K. I never quite understand the enthusiasm for these cars, although with its oval tube chassis and recirculating ball steering the 540K is a bit better. They are really quite slow unless the supercharger is engaged, when the noise is horrible (think of a bucket of bolts being shaken). The steering is unbelievably heavy at low speed and the gearchange is awful, with a three foot long rod and the world's slowest synchromesh on top gear (only). A Rolls Royce Phantom III, Bugatti 50B, Delage, Delahaye or Lagonda V12 and others are far better cars, as are many of the American upmarket cars of the era (Cadillac, Packard, Marmon, etc).

A few years ago we went to look at Gunter Sach's 380K cabriolet with a view to buying it. It was stunningly pretty but dreadful to drive. It was slower than the 1000cc Micra we had hired at Munich airport on the way to see it. Apparently without the supercharger engaged, it only had 85HP, which is less than a Green Label 3 litre Bentley had in the 1920's and it weighed about 60% more.

Your turn.

One of the first cars to awaken Barbara to cars was the 500K.

....but best admired with someone else driving it or static. The straight 8 MBs' wonderful looks write cheques that their dynamics cannot cash. The equally magnificent looking Isotta Fraschini's are similar. Both cars are made to be driven by chauffeurs rather than owners.

Here is the next puzzle..... (and I'm referring to the car being washed, not the one in the background!)

Yes it is a Mercedes Coupe.... maybe the headlights help to determine the model?
