Rona!d Posted April 9, 2013 Share #4781 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Here you can see todays photos of the same model: 50 Jahre IAA: Borgward (scroll down a bit) Borgward Hansa 2400 Sport in der Frontansicht. Aufnahmedatum: - Fahrzeugbilder.de Borgward hansa 2400. Best photos and information of modification. File:2007-09-08 02 Borgward Hansa 2400 (Ausschn, ret).jpg - Wikimedia Commons The car had one of the best aerodynamics of limousines of that early 1950s era (cw 0,363). Grandpa said that the brakes were sometimes not as good as required in the alpes but the 6 cyl. did a good job. I remember driving it´s successor, a Borgward P100 with air suspension, in the 1990s, nice and smooth ride. Edited April 9, 2013 by Rona|d

wlaidlaw Posted April 10, 2013 Share #4792 Posted April 10, 2013 I think it is an Opel and it's not a Kadett so lets try a different Rekord - a type B. Wilson
UliWer Posted April 10, 2013 Share #4793 Posted April 10, 2013 Neither Kadett nor Rekord B:( Both came later and the rear of the first Kadett had some resemblance to the model we are looking for. Think bigger...
UliWer Posted April 10, 2013 Share #4794 Posted April 10, 2013 May be some more obvious photos are needed: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! At its time the car was more "popular" (not really the right word for the "upper class") as the Mercedes in the same class, since it sold better. Though I think this applied only to Germany during the time of the "Wirtschaftswunder". The models which followed seemed too american, just too big and lacking elegance and appeal. wlaidlaw Posted April 10, 2013 Share #4795 Posted April 10, 2013 I had completely forgotten about the Kapitan. I was thinking that the first big Opel after the war was the 6L Rekord, which morphed into the 1970 Commodore. I presume that is a P2 Kapitan. I bet there are very few of those left on the road. It has a distinctly US flavour to it. The British equivalent was the Vauxhall Velox PA, a pretty grim car. Wilson
UliWer Posted April 10, 2013 Share #4796 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) Yes it is a Kapitän P 2.6 File:Opel Kapitaen P 2,6.jpg - Wikimedia Commons The Rekord P 2 was a lot smaller: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Opel_rekord_p2_v_sst.JPG The Vauxhall - had to look it up - still looks different, more like the contemporary Ford Taunus 17M: File:Ford Taunus 17M deLuxe 1.JPG - Wikimedia Commons Edited April 10, 2013 by UliWer
Rona!d Posted April 11, 2013 Share #4797 Posted April 11, 2013 Dad had one before he fell in love with a beautiful Isabella TS. He said that Opel was a "ship" but sometimes he didn´t feel like the captain (in German "Kapitän"), especially in the mountains.
stuny Posted April 11, 2013 Share #4798 Posted April 11, 2013 So, does it go to Wilson for being closest, or should you give us another since nobody really got it (though Rona|d gallantly stepped aside)?

UliWer Posted April 11, 2013 Share #4800 Posted April 11, 2013 Oh no, I was hoping to be relieved. Wilson had the Opel right and named the "Kapitän" - that's all what was asked for.
