Here you can see todays photos of the same model:

The car had one of the best aerodynamics of limousines of that early 1950s era (cw 0,363). Grandpa said that the brakes were sometimes not as good as required in the alpes but the 6 cyl. did a good job.

I remember driving it´s successor, a Borgward P100 with air suspension, in the 1990s, nice and smooth ride.

Not far away, Wilson.

Perhaps this is a better view:

May be some more obvious photos are needed:

At its time the car was more "popular" (not really the right word for the "upper class") as the Mercedes in the same class, since it sold better. Though I think this applied only to Germany during the time of the "Wirtschaftswunder". The models which followed seemed too american, just too big and lacking elegance and appeal.

I had completely forgotten about the Kapitan. I was thinking that the first big Opel after the war was the 6L Rekord, which morphed into the 1970 Commodore. I presume that is a P2 Kapitan. I bet there are very few of those left on the road. It has a distinctly US flavour to it. The British equivalent was the Vauxhall Velox PA, a pretty grim car.

Yes it is a Kapitän P 2.6

The Rekord P 2 was a lot smaller:

The Vauxhall - had to look it up - still looks different, more like the contemporary Ford Taunus 17M:

So, does it go to Wilson for being closest, or should you give us another since nobody really got it (though Rona|d gallantly stepped aside)?[/quote

I think we need another one from Uliwer.
