Stuart: Not an MG (but if thsi car would have been an MG, it would be one of my must-have-MGs!).

John: Absolutely on the right track, german and 1930's (the knobs are made out of bakelite, "sort of" plastic)

Olaf: Not british, see my comment on Johns post (but, as mentioned before, "don't unterestimate the octagon" because there has happened something...)

And here is the last hint from the dashboard, as you can see, with a panel light dimmer (top right, "hell/dunkel"). The contemporary MGs have had a dimmer as well ;-)

...hm, seems that there are not so many lovers of pre-war german cars involved...maybe a change of perspective will make this riddle more attractive - lets have a look at the steering wheel from outside!

Thanks!

I do not think it is a Coupe because if I am not wrong one can see the folding top through the window

This one has a very similar cockpit, only the steering will does not fit entirely:

All's well that ends well....Andreas (a.j.z.) will get the winners trophy: BMW 327. Location: Meilenwerk, Düsseldorf. Andreas, your turn!

Thanks to Olaf for reminding the Eisenacher Motor Works (EMW - in Eisenach BMW started production of automobiles, a license production of Austin Seven), after the 2nd world war they have produced BMWs for a short time in the German Democratic Republic and brought some luxury behind the iron curtain.

In 1937, a BMW 327 cost around 7,500 Reichsmark. A steelworker earned around 200 Reichsmark a month (48 hours a week). So this car was worth around 3 years of average payment.

And the octagon connection? BMW overtook Rover group around 2004 - MG and all the other marques of the former BMC. And did you know that former BMW chief Bernd Pischetsrieder was a nephew of the famous Alec Issigonis, the creator of the "Mini", which is one of BMWs best sellling cars today? So at the end, it seems that everything makes some sense, maybe...

Cheers, Andreas
