Rona!d Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3741 Posted July 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your guesses are a compliment to the designers of that car. No US, no Japanese. No Guigiaro (maybe a "copied" Guigiaro design). Macrobernd was (accidently?) on a very good trace though. It is indeed a Wartburg (nobody would expect when seeing the complete car). So maybe he can also provide the models name?
Advertisement Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Hi Rona!d, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
macrobernd Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3742 Posted July 18, 2012 Unbelievable, a Wartburg 355 from ~ 1968. The front really looks like a wartburg, but the back? Never seen this car before.
Rona!d Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3743 Posted July 18, 2012 Wartburg 355 - well done, Bernd! Your turn. Note: When talking to the old development department and advertising people from former Wartburg factory they often have an undertone saying: "VW and others copied our ideas - we were leading in design and construction but had not the permission from the government". In a way it sounds like: "We designed the Golf, we designed the Passat, we designed the Polo - VW copied our ideas". I cannot say if and in which direction industrial spying happened but I can tell you the brands and models of real existing western cars the design models of AWE look like Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3745 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) The Wartburg 355 prototype (1968) is said to be the role model for the VW Passat (serial production 1973). Well, the role model for the Wartburg could well be the Renault 16 (press release 1964, serial production started 1965). Another hint is that the Wartburg prototype used a Renault engine! So who made "the original" then? Renault! Edited July 18, 2012 by Rona|d
Andreas.Pichler Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3746 Posted July 18, 2012 ...Renault is a good idea for one of the next riddles - my parents favourite car from th 60ies to 80ies - R4, R6, R16, R30 - as you can see, not so bad times for them ;-) Cheers, Andreas
