Andreas.Pichler Posted January 10, 2012 Share #2781 Posted January 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Porsche normally has had VDO as supplier for gauges - but farm machinery or truck is a good clue in my opinion because of the condition of paint work and underlying metal. Advertisement Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Hi Andreas.Pichler, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
timd. Posted January 10, 2012 Share #2782 Posted January 10, 2012 farm machine + argentina = pampa bulldog (argentinian made lanz)?
Rona!d Posted January 10, 2012 Share #2783 Posted January 10, 2012 No farm machine (that would be too unfair). A car - not made in Argentina - stay in good old europe.

Rona!d Posted January 11, 2012 Share #2785 Posted January 11, 2012 1906 FIAT? Ian FIAT is VERY good, but it's not 1906 (younger). If needed, I'll post another shot this evening.
Andreas.Pichler Posted January 11, 2012 Share #2786 Posted January 11, 2012 I am quite sure that the picture shows the pressure gauge for priming the fuel tank, so I assume we are seeing the upper edge of a fuel tank from the side, in the background the tonneua. It has nothing to do with a farm, so the tonneau is a cockpit tonneau. Priming fuel tanks was coomon for race cars, so we assume it is a race car. If this is a race car fuel tank, then it is pre war - pre first war, from the twenties on boattails have been more common. Ronald told us FIAT is very close, but it has to be younger than 1906. So what about an 1911 Fiat S74? Cheers, Andreas
Rona!d Posted January 11, 2012 Share #2787 Posted January 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, FIAT, but what model/year? Welcome, dear visitor! Andreas.Pichler Posted January 11, 2012 Share #2788 Posted January 11, 2012 Hm, thats a very generous crop...and now its easy: Fiat 520 Competizione from 1928. but do you have any background information concerning the gauge from Argentina? And what for stand "VR" on the gauge? Please let us know... Cheers, Andreas
elansprint72 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Share #2789 Posted January 12, 2012 Looks like it's about 1926 but in that age they would not have mounted a gauge 90+ degrees out of kilter.
ijporter Posted January 12, 2012 Share #2790 Posted January 12, 2012 VR - Perhaps it's an Argentinian precursor of Nikon's Vibration Reduction system, thereby allowing the needle to be read more easily at speed! I know - they would have used Spanish initials, but ... Ian
Rona!d Posted January 12, 2012 Share #2791 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) @ Andreas: Web-research says 520 Competizione to that car. But the owner/driver declaration on the rallye I always see that car year after year says: 1926 FIAT Torpedo. No idea about the gauge from Argentinia, maybe it had been restored/used down there, so some parts added outside factory. To me it looks like a 2-seater special sport version of the 503 (made from 1926 to 1927). I´ll check if I can find out more details. Anybody welcome to do the same. For me the riddle has been solved by you guys. But who is next? One mentioned FIAT, another one mentioned 1926, another one 520 Competizione (but 1928, like some photo-slideshows says). All correct. Rona!d Posted January 12, 2012 Share #2793 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) It seems to be a 520 Competizione, based on the 507 (504/503) but with 6 cyl. engine. That says the webpage of the owner. Andreas, please proceed! Edited January 12, 2012 by Rona|d

Andreas.Pichler Posted January 12, 2012 Share #2795 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Here we are. The clues: No protoype, no special, just a car which was available out of dealers showroom (and sometimes sitting very long time in these rooms...). Our friends from ovr the pond should have no problem with identification! Now, make your well estimated guess (photo gear: Leica M8.2 with Summilux 1.4/50 ASPH, photo has been taken some days ago, crop made tonight): Welcome, dear visitor!
