LuxBob Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2102 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm thinking late '50s from the UK, but it's still not coming to me. I can't make up my mind if it is genuinely old or a modern retro. That sort of dashboard doesn't look very UKish to me but when I say these things I am usually wrong. Nice proper gear lever which again puts me back towards the fifties and what looks like a fly-off handbrake. I wonder if it is German?
J_Thompson Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2103 Posted August 17, 2011 Not German and certainly not a reproduction. Limited production run, less than 150 manufactured, mid to late fifties. Some were competiton cars while others were street versions. There are visual clues to its heritage if you look carefully.
buranca Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2104 Posted August 17, 2011 I'll take a stab... Arnolt Bristol?
J_Thompson Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2105 Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) Correct, Jeff. This is a 1959 Arnolt Bristol with Bristol 404 chassis and drivetrain, Italian body by Bertone and shipped to Indiana for final finishing. Similar models placed first, second and fourth in class at the 1955 Sebring 12 hour race in their first outing. Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2106 Posted August 17, 2011 Funny, I must have known it (click for a side view during a race), but thought of an AC Ace/Bristol because I thought the screen of the shown car was higher.
Rona!d Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2107 Posted August 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not German and certainly not a reproduction. John, in a way it is German, think of the engine and other parts, their base are German constructions!
J_Thompson Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2108 Posted August 17, 2011 Come to think of it, Ronald, you're entirely correct in that the engine is a pre-war BMW design. However, I didn't want to confuse the issue as the mechanicals were all sourced from an English company.

J_Thompson Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2110 Posted August 17, 2011 Jeff (buranca), just a reminder that since you had the correct answer, it's now your turn to post a photograph.

buranca Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2112 Posted August 17, 2011 OK. Not as beautiful as the last entry and certainly a bit more mundane! Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted August 17, 2011 Share #2113 Posted August 17, 2011 I had only seen one Arnolt Bristol, and it was when I was in high school. My thinking did not go far enough -- I thought of AC Bristol Ace , and should have kept going. Drat!

I'll admit that the Arnolt Bristol is a bit obscure, Stuart, but It's not like you lost the big lottery by one number. If Jeff hadn't gotten the answer, I'm sure that Ronald, you or another Forum member would have eventually "hit the jackpot."

buranca Posted August 18, 2011 Share #2117 Posted August 18, 2011 Audi A5 Am I rather predictable? Not an Audi A5. In this case, the car is a bit smaller than an A5... but seemingly bigger???
Rona!d Posted August 18, 2011 Share #2118 Posted August 18, 2011 A4? If so, sorry, haven´t checked the details and if there is a visible difference judging from your shot angle.
buranca Posted August 18, 2011 Share #2119 Posted August 18, 2011 A4? A4 is correct. I thought that the color may cause a little confusion as you don't see it very often. The very beautiful, IMHO, Teak Brown Metallic. Over to you.
Rona!d Posted August 18, 2011 Share #2120 Posted August 18, 2011 Jeff, the color seems to be very nice. I´m not sure if I have seen it on a smaller A3 before. Brown cars need a certain design to look good. Let me see, what I find to post.
