kkochheiser Posted December 9, 2010 Share #665 Posted December 9, 2010 I think Steed has it. That's what I get for looking at the image on my phone. Kent
J_Thompson Posted December 9, 2010 Share #666 Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) Correct - Lotus 19. Ex Dan Gurney/Arciero Brothers. The wall photo shows Gurney leading Stirling Moss at Riverside. You have the helm, Steed. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! kkochheiser Posted December 13, 2010 Share #667 Posted December 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) In steed's absence I've been asked, as first runner up, to provide a stand-in photo. So here goes. Extra points for identifying the particular car and it's significance in history. Kent Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted December 14, 2010 Share #668 Posted December 14, 2010 It looks like an Alfa GTV, but that's as far as I can take it.
kkochheiser Posted December 14, 2010 Share #669 Posted December 14, 2010 Sorry Stu, not quite what I was looking for. Not a GTV and this particular car has quite a history and even has a book published about it. Kent
stuny Posted December 14, 2010 Share #670 Posted December 14, 2010 At least we know which petroleum company was the sponsor, and that the logo predates the 1991 nationalization of the Argentine company. Being Argentine, does this have anything to do with Fangio?
kkochheiser Posted December 14, 2010 Share #671 Posted December 14, 2010 Not directly, no. But being Argentina, everything is connected at some level! The car is probably more famous for what it achieved rather than who drove it. Apropos of nothing, I was fortunate to meet Mr. Fangio a number of years before his death and you could never meet a more humble, gracious and inspiring man. gmo Posted December 14, 2010 Share #672 Posted December 14, 2010 Kent, If it's a car with a history it must be a GTA and not a GTV. Further assistance of Google learned me that it's Carlos Lepro's GTA serial no. 613642 and apparently the first GTA from Autodelta to reach Latin America in 1965. that's the nice thing about this thread that you learn a lot while searching for the answers. regards Gerd
kkochheiser Posted December 14, 2010 Share #673 Posted December 14, 2010 Well done, Gerd! By winning the 1965 Grand Premio, 613632 became the first GTA to win an FIA sanctioned race. The book is "Carlos Lepro's Giulia" by the current owner and restorer, Dr. Bernardo Martinez (a great guy, by the way). Over to you! Kent Welcome, dear visitor! gmo Posted December 15, 2010 Share #674 Posted December 15, 2010 I don't think the next one is too difficult but as I will be traveling the next two days it may take some time to come on line. Anyway I'll be back home on Friday. As for the car manufacturer the image leaves little doubt. Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted December 15, 2010 Share #675 Posted December 15, 2010 Gerd - It looks familiar -- Perhaps from aobut 1960. I look forward to seeing the entire car.
J_Thompson Posted December 16, 2010 Share #676 Posted December 16, 2010 Good one Gerd. It looks to be modern, judging from the interior, and from the graphics on the door, is most probably an Alfa Romeo. Would this be the new Tubolare Zagato (TZ) Corsa recently commissioned by a wealthy Alfisto?
gmo Posted December 16, 2010 Share #677 Posted December 16, 2010 John, Exactly - the Alfa Romeo TZ3. And as for Stuarts remark about the 60's look that is even more striking if you see the 3 cars next to each other TZ3, TZ2, TZ1 and a Giulietta SZ as seen here in Zandvoort last September. Though for me the TZ2 is the favorite. By the way I'm back sooner than I thought after a day traveling to get back to where I started this morning due to cancelled flights etc... Well at least I've seen some airports today. So over to you John. Gerd Welcome, dear visitor! J_Thompson Posted December 17, 2010 Share #680 Posted December 17, 2010 That would be an excellent starting place, Stuart; you are indeed on the right track (pun intended). Hint: this particular car has also appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
