stuny Posted September 21, 2010 Share #423 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Back to LuxBob's, for a moment. I was always under the impression that the "P" was only used for the original runs of the car, referred to internally as "Prototype" and not build in Sweden - Actually built in the UK by Jensen. As soon as they were being built in Sweden the P prefix went away and the S (Sweden) suffix was affixed. The car LuxBob shows above is properly called the 1800ES. PasMichiel Posted September 21, 2010 Share #424 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Back to LuxBob's, for a moment. It's funny that you mention it. You are right, but if you look at the type number in the car and chassis number you will find the P mentions till 1968. And worldwide people continue saying P1800xxx. The E and ES are injections engines. Some say the S stands for Stationcar not for Sweden anymore. But in case of the 1800ES it stands for Electronic Special. So... how come? Why do people make those mistakes. Well maybe Volvo did something wrong. As the Amazon is a P120 or P130 and the types before named PV444 and PV544. No prototypes at all. Mentioning the Amazon, people still keep naming it Amazon, but it's not: the motorcyle brand "Amazonas" indicted Volvo. I'm sure PV stands for: Volvo Personvagnar: Swedish name for Volvo Cars. Like you have Volvo LV, or Volvo Lastvagnar, the Swedish name for Volvo Trucks. And even now they do it wrong. The C was standing for CONCEPTCAR, but now they have the C30 for example. Strange it is. But... One thing is for sure: ALL 8077 1800ES bodyworks are manufactured in "OLOFSTRÖM" in Blekinge Sweden. So the S may stay If you ask me.... LuxBob Posted September 23, 2010 Share #425 Posted September 23, 2010 Well that back wheel and surround look very TR3 but the rest of it doesn't look at all like a TR3.
kkochheiser Posted September 23, 2010 Share #426 Posted September 23, 2010 And the tail light seems to be the same as a Mercedes 190 SL but I'm pretty sure the car isn't Kent
LuxBob Posted September 24, 2010 Share #427 Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) And those wheels look a bit heavyweight, like a derivation. Is it a 'special' of some kind? Edited September 24, 2010 by LuxBob
PasMichiel Posted September 24, 2010 Share #428 Posted September 24, 2010 And those wheels look a bit heavyweight, like a derivation. Is it a 'special' of some kind? Not a special of anykind, but those fenders are very often gone. Oh and those lights are not original.

LuxBob Posted September 24, 2010 Share #430 Posted September 24, 2010 The MB type in the background is more likely to be seen in mainland Europe. The colour suggests Italy but isn't that red more 50's and later? It's LHD. The wheels are just not elegant enough to be Italian, more German or British. For 33/34 it is good looking. We are talking European aren't we? Why did I let all my old Motor Sport magazines go?
elansprint72 Posted September 25, 2010 Author Share #431 Posted September 25, 2010 For some reason I want to say Allard but it is clearly much earlier. Those rear lights bother me because I can't figure which car they came from. Are you sure that is not a 50s re-body of an earlier car?
Guest suilvenman Posted September 26, 2010 Share #432 Posted September 26, 2010 Given that there's a Mercedes in the background, might this be a German car? Ken.
PasMichiel Posted September 27, 2010 Share #433 Posted September 27, 2010 it's german. british engine.

LuxBob Posted September 27, 2010 Share #435 Posted September 27, 2010 I can only think of Britsh cars with German engines but the best I can do right now is to guess BMW or Auto-Union with an ERA engine. But I am not even sure that ERA made their own engines.
PasMichiel Posted September 27, 2010 Share #436 Posted September 27, 2010 well it's a 1933-34 BMW 303 Sport with a bristol engine Welcome, dear visitor! elansprint72 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Share #437 Posted September 27, 2010 Never seen a 303 like that; most (and there were not that many) were more like taxis! Bristol did not build any engines until after WW2, when they started making BMW designed engines as war reparations. I'm guessing this is a late 40s/early 50s special. Guest suilvenman Posted September 28, 2010 Share #438 Posted September 28, 2010 I cannot find anything in BMW sport roadster style from 1934-1938 that fits with this photo, especially with that strange boat-tail end and the engine cover louvre pattern. The nearest I could see was a mid-thirties 319/1 roadster but even then, the tail was more streamlined, Morgan style and lots of other details were wrong. As far as I can see, the only obvious British link with BMW at this time was Frazer-Nash. Maybe this was some kind of prototype? Any more information to be gleaned from that door sticker? Ken. elansprint72 Posted September 28, 2010 Author Share #439 Posted September 28, 2010 There is a website called "all the BMWs", or something like that, this car is on it (perhaps even these photos?) but there are no words about it. I think the tyres are from a van, maybe.
LuxBob Posted September 30, 2010 Share #440 Posted September 30, 2010 There is a website called "all the BMWs", or something like that, this car is on it (perhaps even these photos?) but there are no words about it. I think the tyres are from a van, maybe. It was the wheels that interested me as they do look a bit clunky. I will try to check them against photo's of my wife's grandfather in his 30's MB or some old BMW pics that I have. Okay that's blown it, I thought of using that MB photo if I got another chance in this game.
