Pindy Posted April 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking at something for just transporting an M and a 35mm attached, with hood and nothing else. There's the very nice Fogg flute, Billingham doesn't seem to have a minimally-sized M case... anybody else make one? The A&A Rina isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Advertisement Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Hi Pindy, Take a look here smallest possible bag for M+35Lux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted April 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2010 It'll go in a jacket large pocket. That's how I carry the setup you've mentioned.
cbretteville Posted April 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 25, 2010 I use a Billingham Stowaway Pola, you think that is too big? http://www.billingham.co.uk/acatalog/Stowaways.html Dosen't look much bigger than a Flute. Carl
Jeff S Posted April 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 25, 2010 Well, there's always the Leica case...Leica | Eveready Case M with Large Front | 14876 | B&H Photo There's also the neoprene version. I prefer the Fogg Lyre to the Flute...great for camera and lens, but extra room for another lens and small accessory front section (extra battery, cleaning cloth, memory cards, etc.). The Fogg folks, bee and Nigel, recommended the slightly larger bag, and I'm glad they did. (I don't use any bag when out shooting; rather, to use for transport or travel.) The Billingham Stowaway seems close to Lyre dimensions, but more narrow, so a tighter fit for lens-mounted camera. The b-laika is perfect for camera body and 4 lenses for travel. Note that most Fogg bags come in all black, even though not shown on their site. Jeff
doug_m Posted April 25, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 25, 2010 I use a Billingham Stowaway Pola, you think that is too big? M Billingham and Co Stowaways Dosen't look much bigger than a Flute.Carl I also use this bag. It does not look like much but its great. I put an extra piece of padding from another Billingham bag in the bottom for more protection. There is room for extra batteries, etc. and although it is small it is roomy enough for the camera with a lens as large as the Nocti as well as a camera plus lens inside a Leica neoprene case. I also think its pretty discreet for a camera bag. Consider the black one.

Alas, money of that kind is best spent on actual camera gear at this point. One day.

cbretteville Posted April 26, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2010 It might. When I get home from work I'll put my M8/35 'Lux ASPH in the Billingham and see how much room there is. The two smaller ones are a little less deep and less wide, but it may not matter. BTW which 35/1.4 will you be using, pre-ASPH or ASPH? Carl

But like Leica cameras, they are the best and they'll last a lifetime.

menos I M6 Posted April 26, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 26, 2010 There has been a strange late fashion, that men should carry a "man bag" called device with them at all times. I am a strong believer that this trend is not right. Nevertheless, I stumbled over this thing, while shopping lately: Caterpillar CAT ManBag - It is a very tiny, black "man bag" thing, made of a strong material and sized perfectly, to fit just one M-body with one lens attached. It has several other zipper compartments, which can hold a notebook, pen, one or two rolls film, if squeezed and a key + some cash money. I threw the cheesy shoulder belt away (you can use a proper belt system, if needed) and use two strong climber carabiner hooks, to attach the bag directly to my belt. You can loop the closing latch with company logo backwards, using it as a little cushion between camera and your hip and you hardly notice the camera. The best thing is, that this thing cost me just 15,- EUR and access to the camera is really, really quick (zip, grab camera, which is stacked conveniently for grabbing by the grip, shoot). When shopping for camera bags, I always have an eye to other solutions, that can be used as a camera bag - this thing is just great!.
jlancasterd Posted April 26, 2010 Share #13 Posted April 26, 2010 I find that a Lowepro Cirrus 110 is ideal for an M8/M9 with a 35mm or 50mm lens - it also has space for spare cards and a battery. I use a Lowepro Nova Mini AW when I want to carry a couple of extra lenses. It will hold an M9 fitted awith Thumbs Up CSEP4, 50mm and 21 mm finders and a Nokton 50mm f1.1, with a Summarit 35mm f2.5, Elmarit 21mm f2.8 underneath protected by a piece of high density foam sheet. There's also a pocket for spare cards and batteries.
dpattinson Posted April 26, 2010 Share #14 Posted April 26, 2010 I can fit my M with 35 lux asph mounted, as well as two more lenses in pouches into the Billingham airport bag (see post http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/101541-small-bag-advice-3.html#post1073273). I also discovered that I can put a standard flash unit in the bent 'deployed' position into the bottom of this bag and leave room for my M8 with one lens mounted. I use pouches on the lenses as padding, and I added a grip to the strap. For a camera with single lens it's perfect.
tgray Posted April 26, 2010 Share #15 Posted April 26, 2010 It's not the *smallest* possible (that'd have to be some form fitting case, right?) but the Lowepro Sliplock Pouch 50 AW is nice. Enough room for an M with a lens, and a couple rolls of film/other accessories. It has a rain cover that stores in the bottom of the bag too. Unfortunately, Lowepro doesn't make them anymore. They still make the 60 which is bigger.
Pindy Posted April 26, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks for the many overnight responses. I have a few things to look into now. I have a few good bags that hold much, but nothing like the neoprene or Stowaway cases just when I want to bring the M6 & 35 ASPH along, which usually means unprotected. I have an A&A 7100 and the best bag I've ever owned, a Think Tank Urban Disguise 50.
Guest Posted April 27, 2010 Share #17 Posted April 27, 2010 There is of course the Leica neoprene case for just this configuration. It will take the camera, a battery and an SD card. +1 since you mention THE bagless combo. While the neoprene thing... (which could take a small DSLR, too and is just as much a genius' creation, as the small Leica-Billingham, that is the only one imo that opens and closes the right way and has the perfect size) ... is tucked in a coat pocket most of the time = when the camera is in use

Guest AgXlove Posted April 28, 2010 Share #19 Posted April 28, 2010 Not as elegant as a Fogg, but it's still a great, functional bag for a very reasonable price: Domke | F-5XA Shoulder and Belt Bag, Small (Sand) | 700-51S
dickgrafixstop Posted May 26, 2010 Share #20 Posted May 26, 2010 try the Naneu Pro military ops Delta bag. About the same size as the Billingham Pola at about 20 percent of the price. Shoulder strap, belt loop, great padded insert, and doesn't look like a camera bag. Pocket in front for an ipod, cards extra battery.
