Bo_Lorentzen Posted May 31, 2010 Share #161 Â Posted May 31, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Arthury, Â Are you doing just JPG's ? Â I am entirely successful dumping JPG's to the iPad, but when I shoot RAD+ the photo app tends to crash. Â Oh and the iPad is briliant for reading the L camera forum. :-)

gwelland Posted May 31, 2010 Share #162 Â Posted May 31, 2010 I have the same problem with RAW + JPG loading with my iPad 3G 64GB too. I've had experiences where it's taken as many as 10x restarts to load on 200+ raw/jpg from an M9 SD card. Not cool.
wlaidlaw Posted May 31, 2010 Share #163  Posted May 31, 2010 John Nack of Adobe is asking in his blog, if we would like Adobe to build a paid app to enable viewing of PSD's on the iPad. I have suggesting in a response to his blog that a far far higher priority should be a native DNG viewer app - no response!  Wilson  PS TNT's tracking shows my iPad/case/camera kit due for delivery today ;-))
AlanJW Posted June 17, 2010 Share #164 Â Posted June 17, 2010 I recently traveled (to Copenhagen) for the first time with an iPad for 5-6 days, thinking the iPad could serve as a useful way to look at each day's work critically, and backup SD cards until home. I was very disappointed. First, I made the "mistake" of shooting DNG only. The M9 DNGs are imported by the iPad just fine, but what you get to look at is the very small embedded jpg on a large screen. Impossible to make reasoned judgments about image quality so I think at a minimum you would need to shoot DNG + JPG. Second, the iPad imports into one folder (except for the "last import"); there is no folder management at all. You can't for example set up your own folder for a date or a place. Third, I could find no easy way to transfer the files on the iPad to my computer and apparently some third party software is required for this; Fourth, there appears to be no way to delete photos imported from a card other than one by one. I had 400-500 and did not want to maintain them on the iPad and have been quite tediously deleting one by one. Fortunately, I also backed up my cards on to a Netbook I had, and even more fortunately I did not reformat or delete from the cards, so I am working quite happily on my images. Don't misunderstand. I really like the iPad as a media consumer/web access/book reader, but IMHO it is still an immature product as a working tool for a photographer. If I have been missing something or didn't understand how to use it, I would appreciate being educated by others here, who may have had more success. Â By the way I feel the same way about it as a working tool for someone who needs to review and edit complicated documents on the go. The tools are just not there yet. rosuna Posted June 17, 2010 Share #165 Â Posted June 17, 2010 I don't understand why the iOS 4 is ready for the iPhone and not for the iPad. We have to wait until this fall for a iPad ready version of the new OS. Â The iOS 4 will have folder management tools, etc. Â Suggestions to Apple will have an impact in the iOS for iPad, for sure. AlanJW Posted June 17, 2010 Share #167 Â Posted June 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It wasn't designed as a media storage device for DNGs. Yet. Â Yes, I know that. I was simply trying to use it for temporary storage. I have an old Epson P2000. With 64GB and a big screen, the IPad compares favorably from a hardware standpoint, and there is no hardware reason it can't serve that purpose. It is the software (or firmware or OS) that is the hang up.

Frank Sprow Posted June 17, 2010 Share #170 Â Posted June 17, 2010 Same way you can print on the iPad. Just turn it over and place on a copy machine!
sanyasi Posted June 17, 2010 Share #171 Â Posted June 17, 2010 I sympathize, but this is the price us early adapters play. As I've mentioned before, the iPad is an excellent device for reading photography manuals and technical books. And they are a lot cheaper. Â The immediate solution to your main problem is to shoot DNG and jpeg. I predict within year, there will be much better software. One way I have tried to get around the 64 gb limit is to use the device as a utility to upload to the cloud. Unfortunately, SugarSync is still not there last time I checked their software. The advantage to the cloud is that you could lose everything while traveling and still have the photos you'd already taken. Â Some enterprising company should come up with a way for photographers to rent sufficient server space for two or three weeks at a time for this purpose. wparsonsgisnet Posted June 17, 2010 Share #172 Â Posted June 17, 2010 It may be that the solution is already available. Â I use Pixoasis to distribute photos. It would certainly be possible to upload a shoot to that site, into an unshared album (they're all unshared until the url is distributed). Â If the photog needed a whole lot of space, the storage upgrade is instant. Then, when the need is over, the storage can be downgraded. Â Of course, you need some bandwidth for this activity. You can even find it useful to transfer files to/from your computer, via browser or iTunes. Give it a try, it's a couple of bucks app, and it worth every cent IMHO.  Ciao

Mauribix Posted June 18, 2010 Share #176 Â Posted June 18, 2010 Bill, I don't use Air sharing actually, I'll have to check. Anywa, at first it seems to me that air sharing is a bit more complete... functions for networking that are not available with Files HD in primis. Did you find any issue/trouble with it? Tinchohs Posted June 18, 2010 Share #177 Â Posted June 18, 2010 I have to say that for me, the experience of using the iPad to process my images was quite good. I recently spent 3 days in Havana, Cuba, and I only took my camera and an iPad. Clearly it's not ready for prime time, but if your expectation is to preview your field work, and share preliminary work online, in my opinion, it does the job. Could it do it better? Ofcourse, and I'll be the first to agree that there is a long road ahead of potential improvement. And yet, it worked for me as the only device on this trip. By the time I got home I had pre-selected my images and could post early versions. Since I shot RAW+JPG, I came back and reprocessed the images in a desktops based RAW Editor (Aperture), but I went straight to the image selection I did on the field. I used Photogene as the image editor.
