Here are 16 photos from my recent X1 use. Many are shot at 3200.

X1 - a set on Flickr

thank you for posting your flicker set the images are quite good. the red wall with window frame captured me.

i am on the fence about this camera so if you could answer a few questions I would appreciate it:

were you using manual or auto focus? why (aside from the fact you could) ISO3200? were these shot in raw and converted to jpg or were they shot in jpg?

would it be possible to post a crop from the original image of the lower right corner of the window frame in the image mentioned above

thanks in adance

Thanks for the comments all and for looking at them. lazaruz, I heard so much about how great the X1's high ISO quality was that I figured I shoot a whole day with it on 3200 (unless not possible due to it being too sunny). I'd say it is better than anything I've used before at 3200, including film. That said, I won't do it again unless necessary. I used autofocus only. Shot in RAW and converted to a pretty low quality jpeg. Feel free to crop my photos yourself, if you want a particular raw file, I can e-mail it to you. I'm sorry, but I don't crop for test purposes or in general. I just make photos and try to process them the best I can in Lightroom.

I would crop 'Mitsuko' a little and reduce the highlights on her face if possible. Well done anyway.

No cropping for me (I'm a bit oldschool that way), but you are right about the highlights... they are blown unfortunately. That was the best I could do to recover. I liked it enough to keep it though.

I have to admit I made a silly mistake. All of these pics are jpegs, not raw. LR 3 Beta doesn't support RAW from the X1 without conversion. I got confused with other images (from E-P1 and M8) I was working on in RAW. Perhaps I'll be able to rescue the highlights a bit better in RAW.

You could do better i believe. There are yet some data to recover from your jpeg so i feel that all hope is not lost.

I particularly like the shot of the girl walking on the sidewalk. The timing of the shot was great with the girls right leg repeating the other diagonals in the frame like the shadow of the tree, the staircase and line on the sidewalk. Made for a very dynamic photo.

Of course the X1 wasn't necessary to make the shot, any other camera in your hands would've been fine.

After all your posts we finally see some images. Good job. I'm sold.

As for X1 AF with moving shots, I'll do what I always did with the M6 (and the D2 and LX-1)

...anticipate

...pre-focus on a spot

...and wait like a tiger.

(The grip and the OVF I think are going to be necessary for me though.)

Thanks for sharing.

Image wise no sale here...... nothing here that shows the camera has a all round capability other than for static subjects where the results can be excellent...........

stnami - I knew I couldn't impress you. However, you know that is my style (static objects) i.e. you knew what you were to get from me and the type of photography I prefer. I wasn't trying to make the case for it being an all around performer, but more of a selfish thread showing what I did over a few days with it.

peterb, thanks. For what little movement I have in my photos, like the women walking, that is exactly how I set up the shot. Focused and waited for someone to walk by. I made the same images without people, but the people made the images better IMHO.

....nothing to do with that I am just looking at the camera/subject and image results

Understood stnami, but you and I are never going to agree on content, aesthetics, processing, and subject matter. What I want in a photograph is totally different than what you want. My influences are different than yours. My photos are exactly the type of photos I want to take. As I've said before, your photos aren't my style at all, but I wouldn't diss them because they are technically good and I respect what you do. It's all good though, you inspired the title of my thread... a bit of foreshadowing.
