This weekend I started with that and bought me a M with two lenses. Here the M4-2 with Summicron 50mm f/2.0 and Summicron 90mm f/2.0. The 90mm is very big. So I will keep looking for the LEICA ELMARIT-M 90mm f/2.8 (non-ASPH) I even get the grip with it, but i don't like it. I will sell it. With the LEICA SUMMILUX 35mm f/1.4 (non-ASPH; between 1961-1995) and the digital M body I complete my Leica wishes. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest BigSplash Posted March 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 8, 2010 Congratulations ....it takes me back to my first M kit ..35, 50, 90mm which are the best lenses for it. I later added the 21mm which is superb and a 135mm (which is really difficult to use) and I have hardly ever used. Some suggestions: Set the shutter speed at 1/15th and click the shutter many times without film and listen to the sound. It should be like a ball bearing dropping on a steel plate and bouncing off. This speed uses the various timing gears to their full and is a great way to see if the camera needs a service, it also is a great way to keep the camera in top condition becuase Leica's must be regulalry used and not kept in a cupboard so that the grease can gum up, requiring a service! Get the Leicameter MR adjusted for the batteries that are available today as the original callibration is for the old type batteries. There are comments about this on the forum. Good luck! The quietest shutter noise i know of amongst film cameras. I could be wrong here, but I read that the M5 was the worst M due to low sales and it's weight, size, clunky. Michiel, I think you have a nice film M and the perfect lense combo. The 90 might be big but you will like the results at F:2 threw F:8 IMO is best performance. The M5 was a very good camera, perhaps one of the best Ms ever made, but it did not sell well because of its larger size and vertical strap lugs if memory serves. The M4-2 is often considered less reliable than previous models and in fact mine had a shutter problem when i used it with the Leica winder some 30 years ago. But it's worked flawlessly since then. If you find the Leicameter too bulky or inaccurate, try a Sekonic 308b handheld meter. It's compact, accurate, and very easy to use, and will make your M4-2 sleeker and easier to carry.
