Advertisement Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi pop, Take a look here Taping over the X1 red dot for stealth mode. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 7, 2010 Share #22 Posted March 7, 2010 Another Korean brand doesn't even have a badge for its new luxury model. See: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 | The Truth About Cars It may be a good car, but looks bland. You also see some BMWs and Benzes shorn of their model numbers. The three-pointed star and the Bavarian blue and white says enough. Über-discreet! Some watches are also available san logo. For Leica, I suggest the best option would be to offer the X1 as a special edition "logo-less" version --- naturally, at a higher price, so photogs can show off their more anonymous and invisible camera. Just get an old Instamatic from OXFAM ... cut it up to get the logos ... and stick 'em on the X1 ... eezy peezy dunk

feyeping Posted March 8, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 8, 2010 Like a M camera, the X1 is such a beautiful camera that it draws a lot of attention.
bill Posted March 8, 2010 Share #26 Posted March 8, 2010 I know you lot don't get out much, so... Rangefound: Hell, no, we won't logo... Regards, Bill
stephen.w Posted March 8, 2010 Share #27 Posted March 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The point of taping up a camera isn't to make the red dot (or whatever logo) invisible, but to make the camera invisible (as far as this is possible). This made sense to street photographers of yore. However, in our current camera-saturated world, it is completely unremarkable to see someone walking around or taking a picture with a phone camera or a small point-and-shoot. If you don't want to be noticed, don't look as if you're taking a picture! Shoot from the waist, look in the opposite direction to the one in which your subject is standing, whatever. Taping your camera up or hiding it up your sleeve will just make you look like a pervert.
NZDavid Posted March 8, 2010 Share #28 Posted March 8, 2010 I know you lot don't get out much, so... Rangefound: Hell, no, we won't logo... Regards, Bill Nice one, Bill. Schadenfreude? Inverted snobbery? I thoroughly agree, there's no need to be a walking or driving advertising billboard. I don't mind discreet logos, though. So many cameras loudly proclaim every feature in big type on every available surface, not just the brand (10MP 8X Optical Zoom POWER OIS, etc). Interesting that all Leicas prior to the M4-2 and M4-P (I think) made do with a discreet and elegant engraved Leica script on the top-plate, with the model number engraved on the edge of the accessory shoe. Craftsman Posted March 9, 2010 Share #29 Posted March 9, 2010 I don't get it. why would you cover $500.00 or more of the value of the X1 with tape?
jsrockit Posted March 9, 2010 Share #30 Posted March 9, 2010 I don't mind discreet logos, though. So many cameras loudly proclaim every feature in big type on every available surface, not just the brand (10MP 8X Optical Zoom POWER OIS, etc). This is why Leica still appeals to me in the digital age. Well, and I prefer rangefinders.

biglouis Posted March 9, 2010 Share #32 Posted March 9, 2010 ....and Where can I get green lizzard skin replacement covering for my X1? Which thumbs up for my X1? When will the wooden grip be available? Why no threaded shutter release? How on earth can I attach my softie! How can I stealth the green confirmation light so I am not easily spotted in the dark? ... actually I am thinking of getting one of these cameras at some point so I'd better stop.. pappde Posted March 9, 2010 Share #34 Posted March 9, 2010 Only a total moroon would tape a camera like the X1 over. Why would anybody want to destroy a beauty like it? You can not make a camera invisible no matter what are you doing to it. You are holding SOMETHING TAPED OVER in fron of you or in front of your eye! It is your demeanor and appearance that makes you inconspicous.
jaapv Posted March 9, 2010 Share #35 Posted March 9, 2010 If you want to take stealth photographs, cut a little hole in a paper bag and put it over your head+camera.
cidereye Posted March 9, 2010 Share #36 Posted March 9, 2010 If you want to take stealth photographs, cut a little hole in a paper bag and put it over your head+camera. True, but make sure you use a black paper bag with no store logos on that either ....or you will be spotted!
pop Posted March 9, 2010 Share #37 Posted March 9, 2010 True, but make sure you use a black paper bag with no store logos on that either ....or you will be spotted! Yes, black is a fitting color for that purpose. After all, quite a few Leica manuals have black covers.
rob_x2004 Posted March 10, 2010 Share #38 Posted March 10, 2010 ....I guess the only answer is to use two pieces of tape, but that makes it twice as costly to do this operation Use clear tape James, that way you only need the one roll. And its stealthy.
rob_x2004 Posted March 10, 2010 Share #39 Posted March 10, 2010 Buy a sheet of clear fablon. You can cut it to shape and also use the remainder to against scratches to those leather volumes in your private library.
