Please someone help!!!!

Just spent 22k on a dream m9 kit, got the camera yesterday. Charged the battery and went out hoping to shoot today but only managed 8 pictures because every time I turn on the camera a message, "No SD card" appears even though I have a hoodman 8 gig SDHC in the camera.

I went back to my hotel room and tried 3 other hoodman 8 gig SDHC cards and got the same messaged.

After turning the camera off and on a LOTS of times finally the error didn't appear.

I then shot 8 pictures, downloaded them into lightroom, ejected the same card, put it back in my camera and guess what, "No SD card" message appeared again!!!

VERY FRUSTRAITING.

I'm currently in LA for PMA and will visit the Leica booth tomorrow to see if something can be done. really need this fixed ASAP because I head out to Austria on Monday on assignment.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any fixes? I've tried formating the card to FAT on my mac but still the same message appears when I turn the thing on.

I just tried a friends 2 gig + another 512mb card and both worked with no error.

What surprised me is that hoodman cards are supposed to be extremely fast and safe.

Plus my leica dealer supplied them too me.

I will pay a visit to both the leica and hoodman booths at PMA tomorrow.

I'd recommend Sandisk or Lexar. Maybe we should think of it as the difference between using Pro film (I think fondly of my Velvia and Provia days) rather than the "free film" you could get from the corner store lab... :D

Seriously - I've run only these brands on M8 / M9 and the only time I had a card issue was when I bought a counterfeit through an Amazon retailer... Once bitten - I know buy cards from reputed dealers.

Hope you can sort out your problem - I think you'll find it's the card - and also I think you'll find that your Leica dealer is often not that knowledgable on cards and is the most expensive place to buy from... In the States I'd buy from B&H (SanDisk | 8GB Extreme III SDHC Memory Card | SDSDRX3-8192-A21) or Adorama SDSDRX38192A21 SanDisk 8 GB, Extreme III Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Memory Card..

Those are the only cards that do not glitch in my M9.

I was told by Eberhart Kuehne, the Leica west coast representative, not to send my camera in for repair, but rather wait for the firmware update, which is supposed to fix card compatibility issues. That was almost 3 months ago now.

Have this kind of problem when my friend borrow my m9 then put in his SD.

Then he told me he need to reformat the SD in his computer change to FAT something that is more compatible. He format his SD to the extend of putting lots of movies in it.

After he reformat it works OK in the M9.

HI,

Leia is not coming to PMA this year.

That answers the thread I just posted in the Customer Forum, asking if we were expecting any news at PMA, like a 28 Summilux or updated 35 Summilux and 50 Summicron (? the oldest lens in the range).

Nobody seems to read manuals before using a new camera any more:( (or even before selling them in this case). Leica recommends - in the manual- to use Sandisk or Lexar, as they cannot guarantee proper function with other brands.

My Leica Dealer recommended Hoodman RAW SD, said it was the best around. Lasted half a day before I got read errors, lost pictures, no SD card messages, etc. Dealer still cant believe it, but accepted it for return anyway.

Strangely enough I found that Delkin SD works. I have two 32g and after 1000 shots not a problem. But as they say your milage may vary.

P.S. Don't format the SD card in your Mac, format it in the camera. That leads to other problems
