samwells Posted December 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 14, 2006 Gérald - beautiful shot...tho I can't help seeing something strangely apocalyptic in view of your caption. Nice how the view beyond the green grass seems like a stage backdrop. Thanx for showing. cheers: Sam
stuny Posted December 14, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 14, 2006 Gerald - Gorgeous in its simplicity, composition, light, depth and geometry. It MIGHT be slightly oversharpened -- I'll have to try again in afew hours on a better monitor.
andybarton Posted December 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 14, 2006 Warmest December night on record here, last night. 2006 has been the hottest year since records began in the 17th Century, too... Very good photograph.
martinop Posted December 14, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 14, 2006 Great composition i.e. framing, balance, DOF. The colors and lightng are very appealing.
gverdon Posted December 14, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks everyone for commenting. Sam, I always see my daily life as a permanent cosmic cataclysm... i.e., as it actually is. Stuart, no, I think you're right: it is oversharpened, especially in the foreground grass, but that's the price I had to pay to maintain some sharpness in the mountains after the downsizing (Lanczos interpolation instead of a linear o cubic one). Cheers, Gérald
JHAG Posted December 14, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2006 @Gerald : as you may know, seeing such a picture (and what a picture…) gives me all the more desire to go live over that side of the Alps. Only, please, keep a little snow aside for me until I'm there
albert Posted December 14, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 14, 2006 Gerald,.......... I always enjoy a good D2 image. Personal reasons. This is a beautifully composed image. Minnesota, USA.....no snow, raining, snowshoes still hanging in the garage....Al

Michael-IIIf Posted December 14, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 14, 2006 Lovely frosty shot. no snow... Depends where you are Yesterday on the 'Midi. Of course I was only up there because there is no skiing and my annual pass is burning a hole in my pocket! Welcome, dear visitor! beramos Posted December 15, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 15, 2006 Gérald, Simple and great composition, I like the place in which the person and the horse are captured compensating the distance of the road. I like much the last lights of the sunset. The definition is perfect.
gverdon Posted December 15, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted December 15, 2006 Thank you again for the comments. Johan, I'll do my best. Last year I had snow since end of November until end of March; this year I maybe could use a snow canon to help you... ;-) Michael, this afternoon, in a mall I saw a big table with good wine (white and red), a lot of dry meat (from Valais) and an attractive young lady trying to sell their pass... ;-) Bernardo, indeed, this peculiar "last moment" of light is very special (and short), it usually disappear as soon as it started. Cheers, Gérald

May I ask you to push on the button until first of April ? If you happen to drive up to the North Sea, I could have a talk with Eole for you…
PhotoArchival Posted December 16, 2006 Share #16 Posted December 16, 2006 Nicely captured Gerald! How did you get your horse to stand still;)
stuny Posted December 16, 2006 Share #17 Posted December 16, 2006 Gerald - I've looked again from home (better monitor). Interestingly, I do not perceive over sharpening on my better monitor, so I assume the effect was an artifact of my inferior, work monitor. I now have absolutely no objection to this superb shot. jotam Posted December 16, 2006 Share #18 Posted December 16, 2006 Gérald, Impeccable classical composition! Powerful «illustration» of a landscape you described so many times in Paço de Arcos! Now I have a more accurate idea of the region you live in. As for the «hot December», come back to Serra da Estrela, my friend! :-) Um abraço, José
gverdon Posted December 16, 2006 Author Share #19 Posted December 16, 2006 Thank you for commenting. José, I'm glad you begin to see what I tried to mean... Now, it would be nice to see it by yourself. Stuart, on my (well calibrated and fair quality) monitor, I can see a bit of over-sharpness in the foreground. But thanks anyway. Amado, the horse was walking... Johan, talk to Eole, I need some fresh sea winds. Gérald
