Guest V64 Posted June 7, 2010 Share #201 Posted June 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Summaron 35 is definitely better than the CV Skopar 35, especially wide open, it is an astounding flare-fighter, considering its age and the fact that you do not need the hood. Below a fast comparison: But which image is the Summaron?

wlaidlaw Posted June 7, 2010 Share #203 Posted June 7, 2010 The bottom of an old wine bottle woul be better than my 35 Color Skopar Classic. Probably the worst lens I have ever bought. Luckily only paid £100 for it. Wilson

roguewave Posted June 10, 2010 Share #206 Posted June 10, 2010 Maggie, that's one fine lens. I love the v 1 50 lux. Colors are amazing, with a complete absence of anything harsh. A dreamer for portraits. Much enjoyed.
caugustin Posted June 12, 2010 Share #207 Posted June 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Once again late to a nice thread. After stumbling over this thread it took me some days to realize that my Elmar 4/90 (4 element version) is "old glass" – from around late 50s or early 60s. This lens was an "emergency buy", and though it was described as being of really good quality, I was completely blown away by the results it showed on the M8 (and I have a current Elmarit-M 2.8/90, which many reviewers consider one of the best 90 mm lenses ever; but it got haze inside, so I needed a quick replacement ...). Enough said, here are some results: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Its only disadvantage is the length (especially with hood attached) – I had to buy a new case And I don't miss the Elmarit-M after shooting with this Elmar for some months (I found 4.0 to be enough on the M8).
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! zombii Posted June 16, 2010 Share #209 Posted June 16, 2010 Thiele lists the numbers 1.640.601 - 1.642.000 for the 50 Summilux of 1958 in his "Kleines Fabrikationshandbuch - Leica Objektive", 3. ed., 2007.So Andy's number could proove him right. Well I just bought SN 1640655 so if this is right, I've got number 55. All I can say is that I hope it's as good as Maggie_O's and Andy's. BTW, this is my first post on this thread. There are just a lot of beautiful images here! Congrats to all and thanks for opening my eyes to some glass that doesn't require a second mortgage to buy! BTW, this is my first post on this thread. There are just a lot of beautiful images here! Congrats to all and thanks for opening my eyes to some glass that doesn't require a second mortgage to buy! Unfortunately, I got the lens and it was full of fungus. Wide open was pretty ugly but from f/2 up, it looked very nice. Sent it back though due to the crud between the rear elements. Then tried a Summaron 35 and the focus was completely off on it despite trying a couple of different adapters. Sent it back too. Sooo, I'm retreating back to safer territory for the moment. I look forward to seeing more images from those of you who have lenses in good condition.

Guest V64 Posted July 3, 2010 Share #216 Posted July 3, 2010 I would love to experiment with 'old glass', but the need for UV/IR filters can be real problem/cost - can anyone point me to a source for Settings (LR3) or Profiles (C1 v5) which do a good job of dealing with the color shifts caused by IR - not just the Magenta Blacks but also the distorted greens and Blues! All help appreciated. Thank-you David

All help appreciated. Thank-you David David, I have just PM'd you about profiles. In theory the easiest answer is to use a Leitz SNHOO adapter to enable modern e39 filters to fit on older Leica lenses with the tapered A36 filter thread - Summar, Summitar etc. Sadly most of these have either been thrown away or are sitting in the collectors' and Leica fondlers' display cabinets. I have been trying to find one for about 2 years. When they do come up, they tend to fetch silly prices. Novoflex will make you a new one for a huge price. They wanted €250 for a 33mm to LTM 39mm lens adapter ring to enable a Elmar 65 head to fit in a Novoflex LTM bellows. Wilson
Yogibear Posted July 4, 2010 Share #218 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) I was invited at German friends to watch the game Germany-Argentina with them and I took some (slow-shutterspeed) photos with my M8 and 1932 Elmar 3.5/35 during the game. Congratulations Germany! We'll beat you in the final next Sunday ! M8 1932 Elmar 3.5/35 wide open, no filter. Hope and emotion Goal!
