ArtZ Posted February 4, 2010 Share #48 Posted February 4, 2010 The Nokton 50mm f/1.1 has arrived this morning. Vive le Nokton ! I have taken some pictures indoors and I'm very pleased with it. I haven't detected any focus shift or back/front focus. Focus very smooth and I find very easy to focus (easier than the Nokton 50/1.5 and very similar to the Summilux 50/1.4 but probably easier -I believe the reason is because the lens is pretty large). I love f stops are very notizable (like in most Leica lenses; very similar to the Nokton 35/1.2 or the Summicron 28/2 and much better than the Nokton 50/1.5). Build quality is at least very good (I reserve superbe until I have tested it more). I have coded it filling the grove on the flinge with a tiny band of cut black Dymo tape (looks professionally done and much better than with a Sharpie). I love the Nokton 50/1.5 with the M8 for portraits.Much better than the Summilux 50 (too clinical and sharp). I have to test now if the Nokton 50/1.1 can replace the Nokton 50/1.5 for portraits (I have now five modern 50mm lenses and that's a bit unresonable) IMHO, for the price of the Nokton (780 € all Taxes incl., though much cheaper than a Summarit 50/2.5 -1 320€ after last prix rise) and the quality I've seen in the pictures, this lens is a "must have" for any Leica user. I will some post pictures this weekend. A happy ArtZ

ArtZ Posted February 4, 2010 Share #50 Posted February 4, 2010 I took some pictures in my neighbourhood this afternoon to test the Nokton. As I said this morning, I'm impressed with it. Here are all the pictures (in two messages), just out of the box (only resized with PS4 to 960x646 pixels). The first three ones are at ISO 160 and all the rest at 320. Of course, they're all taken at f/1.1. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! ArtZ Posted February 4, 2010 Share #51 Posted February 4, 2010 This is the fourth picture, after the "Grems" (Space Invader) and the first one at ISO 320. I have included a crop at 100% PS: Color profile is Adobe RGB for all pictures. Colors look much better in my 26" calibrated monitor than in my laptop. Welcome, dear visitor! roanjohn Posted February 4, 2010 Share #52 Posted February 4, 2010 Artz - lovely shots!!! Though I agree with you that 5 x 50mm lenses is a bit over-doing it . Share some more.

Bo_Lorentzen Posted February 8, 2010 Share #57 Posted February 8, 2010 Hmmm raises interesting questions Wilfredo. Worship is serious stuff. is real righteous worship whenever one or more light beams gathers through a huge piece of glass, coming together for shallow dof.... OR is it only when one or more light beams gathers through a real noctilux german made piece of glass, after all, some religions would argue that one can only worship with a blessed piece of glass. and must you face solms when gathering such light.? . ArtZ Posted February 9, 2010 Share #58 Posted February 9, 2010 ArtZ, Looks like you found a winner, and you saved some money to boot, especially when compared to the price of the Worshipful Noctilux. Keep Having fun with it! Yes, Wilfredo, I'm very happy with this lens. Well, as I said before, every Leica user should have this lens. I won't compare it to the Noctilux in terms of performance but in price terms but to the Summarit 50/2.5. The Nokton costs 780 € and the Summarit 50/2.5 1100 € (40% cheaper than the cheapest Leica M lens !!!). If we compare now performance between the Nokton to the Noctiluxes we can say: 1.- The Nokton is the smallest and lighter (202 grams / 7.13 Onzes lighter compared to the Noctilux 1.0 and 272 grams / 9.60 Onzes lighter than the Noctilux f/0.95) 2.- As the Noctiluxes, the Nokton has its own signature (which I personally like) 3.- Build quality is excellent 4.- Image quality is at least 90% of the image quality you get with the Noctilux 1.0 -some reviews say on a M8 is even better than the Noctilux 1.0!!! and all this for just 60% of the price of a Summarit 50/2.5!!! JPH1962 Posted March 22, 2010 Share #60 Posted March 22, 2010 I enjoy my nokton 50 1.1 as well since a couple of days, but notice some blueish halo around very bright parts of the pictures.... such as specular highlight on glossy surcfaces or such as on the example below at 1.1. at 1.4 it is much better and as soon as 2.0 it is absolutely clean. question: du you observe the same at 1.1? rgds JPH Welcome, dear visitor!
