Advertisement Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Hi John Thawley, Take a look here Test Session - Ferrari F430. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Thawley Posted December 26, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted December 26, 2009 Since this was a customer shoot, most of the images, including on-track, were shot using my Canon gear. Those can be viewed here: http://www.johnthawley.com/journal/2009/12/23/extreme-speed-motorsports-tests-at-sebring.html
marknorton Posted December 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 26, 2009 Tedious garbage. What has a bunch of Canon shots, even if we could see them, got to do with Leica?
John Thawley Posted December 26, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 26, 2009 Tedious garbage. What has a bunch of Canon shots, even if we could see them, got to do with Leica? Happy Holidays, Mark.
sgilder Posted December 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2009 Tedious garbage. What has a bunch of Canon shots, even if we could see them, got to do with Leica? Seriously? I hope I'm missing the sarcasm here...
stuny Posted December 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 27, 2009 Mark - John is a very accomplished professional automotive racing photographer who uses his DLSRs for most of the action, but often shows us automotive fine art (and other subjects, too) shot with his stable of D2s. Many of us actually would like to see his action shots -- they are remarkable, and as good as I've seen in following the sport for half a century -- so John gave us the opportunity to do so without breaking Forum rules. In short, please lighten up and try to help us maintain our usually civil atmosphere here. John - Absolutely lovely, and fun to get behind the scenes.. It appears to be a race preared "normal" 430 and not a Scuderia.

giordano Posted December 28, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 28, 2009 Tedious garbage. I agree - they'd be better placed in a car or motor-racing forum than a photography one, or one or two shots here with a link to the OP's gallery - but there's a bunch of car enthusiasts here who don't. Mark, have you seen the Snapshot forum? thread in the Bar? It's just getting round to this sort of question.
Wuddy Posted December 28, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 28, 2009 Why? The shots posted here are all made with a Leica. And very good indeed - thank you for posting them. Michael
elansprint72 Posted December 28, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 28, 2009 The number of times I could have posted "tedious garbage" to photographs of dogs, cats, babies, flowers, birds...... etc is manifold, however, as the old saying goes; "manners maketh man". btw, I have nothing against any of those things on my list....... except dogs. I found the shots here and also the linked ones very interesting but I would say that, wouldn't I? Carry on John.
andybarton Posted December 28, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 28, 2009 None of the photographs shown here constitute anything approaching a "snapshot" IMHO, nor are they "tedious garbage". I think that Mark must have been having a bad day.
rob_x2004 Posted December 28, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 28, 2009 Well I am off to peruse Marks shots for inspiration and to learn something about photography. Ive already seen Giordanos, and he is right. There should be a snapshot section. John you could learn something about car art shots here.
andybarton Posted December 28, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 28, 2009 If only Mark had actually posted any shots... Oh well
topoxforddoc Posted December 28, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 28, 2009 John, Thanks for posting. Artistically I like the first frame. Nice work if you can get it. Winter testing seems a bit of an oxymoron in Britain - too cold, too wet! Best wishes,
pauledell Posted December 29, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 29, 2009 John, From a photographic standpoint alone, these are some of the finest shots I have ever seen with great composition, tonal quality, sharpness and reportage interest. turner Posted December 31, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 31, 2009 John, Whew, great captures! All we needed was an attached sound clip of the engines rumbling during the test runs. Keep'em coming and HNY! turner
stephan_w Posted December 31, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 31, 2009 Nice shots, I like them. But I agree with some of the statements above, were they made with Leica gear? If so, which gear?
rob_x2004 Posted December 31, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 31, 2009 Stephan, you need to get yourself an exif viewer, or at least do view properties/get info. It saves from having to ask the obvious, and saves you from making a dunce of yourself on occasion. Well worth gooooogling a free download.
vdb Posted December 31, 2009 Share #19 Posted December 31, 2009 Very enjoyable for me. It's been several years since I have raced at Sebring....never a Ferrari, always Porsche....these shots instantly bring back the sounds, smells and energy of testing. Love it. Surprised there are no paddles in this one.
stephan_w Posted December 31, 2009 Share #20 Posted December 31, 2009 Stephan, you need to get yourself an exif viewer, or at least do view properties/get info. It saves from having to ask the obvious, and saves you from making a dunce of yourself on occasion. As far as I understood, the photos were made with a Canon, right? And if so, it is still possible that they were made with a Leica Lens
