Guest BigSplash Posted December 23, 2009 Share #21 Posted December 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh goodie - another one. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/110246-what-leica-production-stats.html ...and I still do not have the answer to my question on that thread... Bill is it wrong to wonder about Leica shipments. I have had filter's on order and now a lens hood ....with awful leadtimes. I was planning to buy a new lens but again leadtimes ...! Advertisement Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Hi Guest BigSplash, Take a look here What are the Leica production stats? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
zeitz Posted December 23, 2009 Share #22 Posted December 23, 2009 I too am concerned about Leica product delivery. The irony is that last year I walked into Samy's Camera in LA and walked out with my 50mm Summilux and got a $ 300 rebate for doing it. How things have changed in a year. Now I wonder when I can buy a new 90mm Summicron. I'll go so far as to say that neither the M9 nor the S2 can be considered professional equipment because a professional can't buy what he needs, when he needs it. It's not the equipment that is at fault; it is the business model of Leica.
andybarton Posted December 23, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 23, 2009 I am intrigued ...the rumour is that: S2 shipped their first unit during December according to LFI is that really just one single unit, or are volumes of units now rolling off the production line? Some backlog and general acceptance that this is a great camera. Is it a commercial success however? Do you not think it a little early to be questioning the commercial success or otherwise of the S2? Only Leica know the answer to your questions, and they will not be telling. I don't know why lenses are in short supply, but they wouldn't close down the lens line to build cameras as the skills required are obviously completely different. bill Posted December 23, 2009 Share #24 Posted December 23, 2009 Only Leica know the answer to your questions, and they will not be telling. Sadly, and quite unbelievably, some people simply refuse to accept this. The last time I bought a lens, a camera or a lens-hood there was no little scroll in the box that gave me the right to keep on and on and on and on and on and on and on asking commercially sensitive questions. Regards, Bill

Regards, Bill Happy Christmas Bill ....! I am not not sure why you feel that asking about the shipment delays for a UVIR filter, new lenses or a lenshood is commercially sensitive information........Why is this an unreasonable question to ask? I would agree that asking about the S2 shipments is commercially sensitive. However surely it is an obvious question if both LFI and Leica Newsletter boast that they had started shipments with one unit out of the door. earleygallery Posted December 23, 2009 Share #26 Posted December 23, 2009 This is all so exciting, I thought when I bought a Leica I was buying a camera, not shares in the company - how many do I own and how much are they currently worth please? With the purchase of vintage equipment does one obtain shares at their 1950's value automatically, or are they index linked?
Jeff S Posted December 24, 2009 Share #27 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) How long does it take Heinz to produce a can of tomato soup? How many tomatoes does it contain? Who prints the labels for them? How many cans are sold per month in Tirana? I think we have a right to know... Regards. Bill Submit questions here....Heinz – FAQs / Frequently Asked Questions You'll need to be specific about classic tomato soup versus cream of tomato. And, beware that ingredients change....in 1984, classic tomato soup ingredients increased from 74% to 84% tomatoes. Heinz does publish that soup cans sold annually in UK in 2004 would stretch end to end around the moon three times (289 millions cans). Jeff
redbaron Posted December 24, 2009 Share #28 Posted December 24, 2009 Forget the soup. A far more important question is; how much real butter is in the microwave popcorn I'm eating? It says "butter substitute" on the packet, but I had to top it up! Ripped off!
Guest BigSplash Posted December 24, 2009 Share #29 Posted December 24, 2009 I see that the frivolity of Christmas has started early this year.....Why is it that you guys are trying to wreck this thread, and what right do you have to do so? Some people have an interest in the subject...if you guys do not why not just play with your toys. ?
andybarton Posted December 24, 2009 Share #30 Posted December 24, 2009 Oh, lighten up, Frank, it's Christmas. If you want a filter more quickly than you have been quoted (which sounds like "2010"), there will, more than likely, be alternative suppliers other than Leica. If you want a lens hood, have you considered a used one? IMO, Leica are perfectly within their rights not to tell anyone what their production statistics are. But, if they have a delay in delivering a particular item, they should at least tell a customer roughly when it is likely to appear. To hear some people round here, it's as if Leica have just stopped making anything at all, apart from the odd M9... When you went to your dealer, did he tell you that these items were on "back order", with no known date for delivery? Have you thought about asking another dealer?
