lct Posted December 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2009 Must be hard to chimp with this thing. Wonder how HCB and others could take photographs w/o holding their cams at arm's length like everybody.
khanosu Posted December 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 7, 2009 Must be hard to chimp with this thing Awkward but doable. To chimp after making a picture, keep the shutter open, look at the recorded image through the lens and also shine a flash-light through the lens (brighter the better, it is awfully dark in there). During bright sunshine days just angle the lens towards the sun and simply peek in. Take care Furrukh

grober Posted December 8, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) It would be fun to see if an X1 could fit in this decades-old Leica leather case. -g

jsrockit Posted December 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 9, 2009 Shame they dropped the optical finder isn't it. They didn't ... you just have to pay extra. Plus, back then, that was all you got. At least the X1 gives you two options to view... we've come a long way in 70 or so years!
lct Posted December 9, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 9, 2009 ... we've come a long way in 70 or so years! Not obvious to me i must say. Shooting at arms length is a regression IMHO. One could use external viewfinders in the past but there was a built-in one in most cameras at least.

taildraggin Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #15 Posted December 9, 2009 If I could bolt that little 4 screw viewfinder to the X1, I'd call it done. Hotshoe viewfinders and EVF look vulnerable and snaggy. - Charlie

Hotshoe viewfinders and EVF look vulnerable and snaggy. - Charlie Not to mention that since the invention of bulb and electronic flash you can't fit a flash to the shoe and a finder at the same time!! (yes the X1 has a built in flash but if you want to use a proper finder and a more powerful flash at the same time....you can't).
jsrockit Posted December 10, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 10, 2009 How accurate were those viewfinders?
taildraggin Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #18 Posted December 10, 2009 How accurate were those viewfinders? Framing would be pretty good, as it's designed for the fixed lens. You'll need faith in the AF LED indicator, or MF zone, for focusing... It was good enough for HCB.
