Nicoleica Posted November 28, 2009 Share #102 Posted November 28, 2009 What I find fascinating with this thread, and the LUF in general, is that as soon as somebody dare say a little bad about Leica, or a Leica product, and/or some organization, say, randomly, B&H, someone is sure to rise up against him/her, flame him/her, and generally mock him/her. It seems that to express one's disagreement, some people believe that verbal roughness is mandatory. Yet the poster was NOT attacking anybody in the forum. But then again, like somebody already said, «words are cheap, it has no consequence for you, no responsibility involved...» No wonder. Fascinating. In this forum, freedom of speech is guaranteed to all. It's freedom after speech that's the problem.

What I find fascinating with the LUF in general is that there are some people who don't only tell us that they are not interested in a certain product (i.e. M9) but do not give a single instance of what else interests them in this Forum, but only rise up against Leica, flame it and generally mock it. It seems that some people can't bear if one expresses anything else than destructiveness.
piero Posted November 29, 2009 Share #105 Posted November 29, 2009 When 5D MKll was 'out' in the market I remember being the 125th in the list of my reseller in Milan (BTW the largest store in the city). After a couple of months I forgot about it and kept renting the MKlll body. More months went by. Who says Leica is slow on delivery? And other brands? please guys... At least, me, I do not attack fellow members. I must confess to being absolutely fascinated by this M9 madness, by the total irrationality surrounding it, and by what people are ready to put up with for what is just a camera. So, I did react in a thread where it was announced that Leica were delaying M9 delivery again. And in another one, where it was announced that B&H was asking for full payment to have one's name put somewhere on a M9 waiting list, without any hint as to when and how. I find the two threads put together totally absurd. So, yes, I do follow the M9 forum, and I'm having fun.

Within your main paragraph is a not too subtle condemnation of those lacking your understanding and insight. I think you can make a bigger impact by respecting the decisions of others and demonstrating your process for incorporating new equipment into your kit. Works much better than calling others "absurd."
hammam Posted November 30, 2009 Share #108 Posted November 30, 2009 Sometimes arrogance brings out the worse in others. Within your main paragraph is a not too subtle condemnation of those lacking your understanding and insight. I think you can make a bigger impact by respecting the decisions of others and demonstrating your process for incorporating new equipment into your kit. Works much better than calling others "absurd." I don't recall calling anybody absurd. I do recall, however, finding a situation absurd as illustrated by two close threads on this forum. I criticized Leica by not being able to take advantage of their own buzz and making good on their promises (while still expressing my wish that they do well), and I voiced outrage at B&H asking for full payment on a camera without even knowing themselves when the camera would be available. This was not meant to attack anybody here, and if some people felt offended, it was not my intention at all. Some maybe more touchy than others. Now, I hope MY freedom of speech includes the righ to politely express disagreement on certain situations without being called «arrogant» or «destructive» or what not. Again, I didn't call anybody names. Thank you.

Peter Lea Posted December 1, 2009 Share #112 Posted December 1, 2009 Actually, there is a very good reason for anyone in the Uk to pay for their M9 in advance. If they do so before 31 December, they avoid the 2.5% increase in VAT which comes into effect on 1st January, as well as any other price increase Leica UK might bring in. With current bank interest rates at 0.1%, this makes good financial sense. Peter Lea
Elmo Posted December 1, 2009 Share #113 Posted December 1, 2009 makes me appreciate David Farkas even more as he is an outstanding guy that really goes the extra mile for his customers (regardless of their geographic location)Cheers, I called him twice; left messages; and never heard a word. I guess he's too busy to return a call and take a $10,000 order. Many others are not.

If they do so before 31 December, they avoid the 2.5% increase in VAT which comes into effect on 1st January ... There's a good argument, Peter. How much could a guy make if he ordered ten M9s now and then sold them after the First? Me, I'm hoping to finance my retirement with the US "Forever" stamp. [if you haven't heard, the US Postal Service has issued a stamp good for one ounce of "first-class" (e.g. letter) postage, no matter when it is used. The stamps were first issued when one ounce was $0.41. Now, since that first ounce costs $0.43, I'm saving two cents per stamp. Or, if you buy a stamp from me for the current rate, I've made just over 4.5%. ]

henryp Posted December 7, 2009 Share #116 Posted December 7, 2009 I think it's important to realize, stores like B&H and Adorama are family run business and no ones going to get fired! If "we" stop buying from them. I am sorry to have to say this, but this is simply 100% incorrect. B&H has 1,000+ employees. Many (like me) are not related to anyone else here and in today's economy I am as concerned as anyone about keeping my job. The idea B&H is all run by a bunch of same-surnamed 2nd cousins with absolute job security is ludicrous.
henryp Posted December 7, 2009 Share #117 Posted December 7, 2009 What I don't really appreciate in B&H «pay now and wait» policy is that it smells of blackmail: if you want to be on an M9 waiting list, sir, you will have to pay for it in full, otherwise you will not be put on the list. Actually, if you choose COD as the payment method, a 10% deposit by credit card is all we require. And, with a 35+ year history of unimpeachable ethics and pristine integrity I think your use of "blackmail" was undeserved. That though is my personal opinion. I voiced outrage at B&H asking for full payment on a camera without even knowing themselves when the camera would be available. Outrage might be understandable if this is what happened. It is not. We did not begin accepting orders for the M9 until we'd been assured by Leica USA of approximately how many and approximately when we'd be receiving them. We certainly regret any overoptimism on Leica USA's part but understand they rely in promises made to them by Leica in Germany as we rely on their promises to us.
