Hi, I bought a Leicaflex black SL recently. I checked the serial number (no. 1386031) on https://www.base2photo.com/Photography/Tips/Database/Leica/SerialNumbers?camerasn=1386031&lenssn= and it says 1975 SL2. On a friend's suggestion, I also went down the list on https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Serial_Numbers_Leica_Cameras, and the serial number matches with 1975 SL2. But the one I have is clearly a SL1. Is there a problem? Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Got my first ever Leica M body last year. It's a M2. It came bundled with a Summicron 50mm F2 Collapsible. I'm really enjoying this combo, but I'm a 35mm shooter. I've found a Summaron 35mm 3.5 for sale in my country, for a decent price. It's serial number is the following: 1176436. However, I know that users have trouble defining their lens models, because they were produced in a large numbers. I've checked this one's number on a lot of different sources and foruns, but I failed on identifying it. The weird part is that checking through this website: https://reddotcamera.net/leica/serial-number-tool/ and in this page: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Summaron_f%3D_3.5_cm_1:3.5 The information I have is that this lens is identified as a Summicron 50mm f/2, build in the year 1954 and a Summicron 5 cm 1:2 (M), respectively. Why is that? Has anyone here ever seen one of these? I wanted this to be the M2 version (to activate the 35mm framelines) but I have no clue what this all means. Any guesses are welcome. Thanks!

Regarding the modern, made in Japan, Zeiss ZM branded lenses for Leica M mount...Some have serial numbers starting with 51 but most appear to have serial numbers starting with 15 - even for the same model lens (eg, 50mm f/2 Planar).I thought I read some explanation for this but I cannot find it any more (and my memory is spotty). I tried asking the mfgr, Cosina but have not received an answer. Does any body know what the different prefixes signify?TiA.

I have a Hektor f1.9 73mm with Serial Number 98732. All the serial number listings that I've seen do not include this number. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys, Does anyone knows how to track down the production year starting from the serial number of an SL2S? I found a great deal for a used SL2 that apparently has some problems that would be fixable and covered by warranty if the specific body has been built in the past 3 years but the seller does not have box or receipt of the original purchase. I have the serial number though: 56284** Thank you in advance!

Greetings to the forum! I am new to forum and this is my first post. I recently purchased an summarit 50mm f1.5 on Ebay. But just now I noticed that its serial number is not in the range of summarit on any source online, this for example: https://reddotcamera.net/leica-lenses/serial-number/ . My lens' serial number is 1000025. The closest match is summarit 1000000 (https://www.nocsensei.com/camera/tecnica/marco-cavina/marcocavina/leitz-summarit-50mm-115/). and accroding to the record 1000001 should be an Elmar. Want to ask the forum whether cases like this are usual in leica lens production, building a little bit more than planned and not recording them? Is this lens a valid lens? Should I report this case to the database? Thank you! the figure is attached!

Leica changed the MP via the warranty this month, previous camera was bought late 2024 and had number started with 595 but the new one camera is labeled with 10.02.2025 on the box but the number starts with 589. How it can be possible? Camera was in the sealed box and everything is alright. I thought that the number should be incremented while producing new cameras. Any thoughts about it?
