wilfredo Posted March 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got my M8 back from Leica yesterday and took a picture of Vero today. Her husband was mugged, stabbed, and nearly killed a couple of weeks ago a block away from my parish. All the cash from his paycheck was taken from him. She herself is unemployed at this time. This portrait is nothing special but for some reason I felt a need to share her story. Hardships continue on the rise. With her husband convalescing income is at an all time low for the family. (M8, 50mm Konica Hexanon f/5.6.).

melissah Posted March 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 27, 2010 i disagree with you about this being nothing special. its all there, including the knowledge and annoyance that life is sometimes one step forward a million steps back. that annoyance is strength and survival. where is you parish? best, melissa
wilfredo Posted March 27, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted March 27, 2010 Virgil and Meissa, thank you. The parish is located in Garden Grove. Saint Anselm of Canterbury Episcopal Church-Garden Grove, CA (Orange County, California, USA) I met with the family this afternoon and took these shots with the D2. Andres is alive by what he calls a miracle of God, doctors didn't think he would make it (5 stabs). The little girl is Elzabeth, she is one of my acolytes for the Spanish Mass, she loves serving on the altar. Melissa you wrote: "Life is sometimes one step forward a million steps back, that annoyance is strength and survival." Well said!
pauledell Posted March 27, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilfredo, Wonderful shots of a strong and courageous family with such terrible difficulties. Your narrative helps add meaning. I hope and pray that better times will be in front of them. Paul
thompsonkirk Posted March 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 27, 2010 That first portrait is wonderful. The longer I look at it, the more I learn about who this woman is. It's not so much a picture OF her as a picture that IS her. Kirk
wilfredo Posted March 27, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 27, 2010 Paul and Kirk, Thank you. Kirk, To say it is a picture "that is her" really honors the photograph. Thank you for that.
