Advertisement Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Hi Stealth3kpl, Take a look here Black Dot M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
insomnia Posted March 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2011 I read Leica would change the dot to a black one if you ask them nicely at Customer Service in Solms. Don't know about black dots straight from production.
jaapv Posted March 13, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2011 Actually Leica will not change the dot to black, it is not allowed under the terms of use of the brand. It is up to the owner to change the dot. Nowadays they are quite difficult to find.
norm_snyder Posted March 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 13, 2011 Just got a couple from DAG. He was working on a couple of lenses for me [dinged a 75, and the hood needed straightening, and the lens recalibration]. Great job, and I now have a black dot M9. Don't know about overseas post, but should be possible.

shard Posted March 13, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 13, 2011 So what is the source of 'Black Dots' and how are they implemented? Black dots came standard on the M8.2, I am assuming those out there for sale are either original replacement dots from Leica or copies. To replace the red dot, press down hard on the red dot and twist. It should pop off. Replace with black dot.

Your Old Dog Posted March 13, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 13, 2011 Not wanting to be left out of any modification choices to my M9 I just have to know what black dot you are all talking about. Do you mean the one that says LEICA on the face of the camera? I can't keep up with all you guys and your Summilux's but I can damn well change the color of any dot on my M

Saying/asking Jaapv where he got the information about Solms not delivering black dot m9s from factory ? Since he got his etc from them? anyhow, if one wishes to do so its easy as many threads have already pointed out, just get a new one and wiggle the old about with your thumb.. no import needed .. but where did that post go! are
Jeff S Posted March 13, 2011 Share #12 Posted March 13, 2011 Black dots came standard on the M8.2 Only on the black version. But, I now have black dots on both my black and chrome M8.2s, with help from lots of old threads here. (I guess even the mods don't use the search function.) My dot came from DAG, who still gets them fairly regularly. Jeff

earleygallery Posted March 13, 2011 Share #14 Posted March 13, 2011 Black dots give better bokeh, red dots are for the less experienced users that need to shout that they're using a leica. Real photographers tape over their dots and choose the de-badge option on their BMW's

tdtaylor Posted March 14, 2011 Share #18 Posted March 14, 2011 Bought one from DAG a year ago, although when I sent my M9 in for focus, came back with a red dot! My bad, should have know. Man, $75- no way. I had a bunch of red ones, and took 5 minutes to change a few with spray paint and a quick wipe with a q-tip to expose the lettering. While I am not obsessed with it, it can be fun. The comments a year ago when I went to the Leica workshop was entertaining...
