rob_x2004 Posted September 7, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2010 Hells bells. Either that or you have been playing in photoshop and forgot to do both sides. I see it all the way up through the sky.
dcoombs Posted September 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2010 Uuugly! Looks like noise on the left hand side. Maybe you've discovered the dual ISO setting on the M9! Doug
jaapv Posted September 7, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 7, 2010 It is the first and last shot it did that out of thousands - seems like a readout error in the red channel. I'll wat for a repeat until I start to worry.
jaapv Posted September 8, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted September 8, 2010 Update: Subsequent shots at 1250 and 2500 do the same.... Off to Solms... Discussed the repair. Spare parts shortage will make it take at least three weeks, I'm off to Africa in two. CS very kindly offered me a loaner :)

meino Posted September 8, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is a pity, but doesn't it look like an extreme example of the red edge issue? Regards Meino de Graaf
jplomley Posted September 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2010 Jaap, how old is your M9? Wonder how long out of warranty Leica will cover these niggling sensor faults? They really should offer an extended warranty plan much like AppleCare, after all the M9 is just a computer with a lens....
jaapv Posted September 8, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted September 8, 2010 It is a pity, but doesn't it look like an extreme example of the red edge issue? Regards Meino de Graaf No. It has a straight division in the middle. And it is a Summilux 50 asph.

Leica will cover sensor faults far longer than the two years on the camera. The Digilux2 is still covered.
Double Negative Posted September 8, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 8, 2010 I had a feeling it was sensor-related when you posted this over on RFF. Ugh. At least it's covered. Hope you get it back relatively quickly, but a loaner will do.
jaapv Posted September 8, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted September 8, 2010 Yes - it was late - I only noticed after posting on RFF. The camera would be back in three weeks, but I will be gone for a month and a half in two weeks - so the loaner is very welcome.

250swb Posted September 8, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 8, 2010 Wonderful of Leica to offer you a loaner. That's what I call Super Service! Yes you only need to ask for a loaner I'm sorry to hear about your gremlin Jaap, its all happened at the wrong time, especially as Leica seem to still have a parts shortage. I hope its not anticipating another dedicated thread for cameras that are coming on line with centrefold problems like the cracked sensor cameras! Do you know what part they are going to replace, presumably the sensor is OK, so a circuit board perhaps? Steve
jaapv Posted September 8, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted September 8, 2010 I didn't even ask, Steve. I just said woops- I have a problem because etc. Then I was offered one.. Usually the sensor and motherboard are replaced in cases like this.

jaapv Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #18 Posted September 13, 2010 So - with Leica a loaner means they just pluck a brand new gray M9 from the delivery line .
250swb Posted September 13, 2010 Share #19 Posted September 13, 2010 This is great news Jaap, for you and the forum. A precedent is now set and we can all refer Leica to this thread when our cameras go for service! Steve
jaapv Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted September 13, 2010 You might have to show an airline ticket for five weeks in central Africa, and a list of regular Leica purchases dating back 40 years... I guess in your case with your project Leica might have relented, but then, that was in a time that M9s were as scarce as hen's teeth...
