has anyone tried EVF-4 and new FW?

But who makes the T EVF?. It is certainly made to order. Might we see an M-V at Photokina with the T EVF interface, for the rest a normal M240? Pure speculation, I might add.

We might see one but it won't be on my M240, at that price I'll live with the Oly EVF2 until a Leica one comes up used. At this writing there's a Leica-branded EVF2

selling for $379 at KEH. Still obnoxiously overpriced compared to the same-condition OLY (I paid $165 for mine) but not as bad as a new one.

LOL I just bought a brand-new Nex-6 w/32GB Sandisk card, spare battery, and Novoflex M-Nex adapter (used) for slightly more than a new Leica EVF.

Well, yes, it would not be on my shopping list either for the same reason.;)

After using the EVF2 for a while now I have to say it's not that bad. I mean people talk as if it's unusable. I've had a look through an EVF4, and it's not as jiggly perhaps but Idk, to me an EVF is an EVF and none of them fool me into thinking it's direct or SLR viewing. It's still like looking down a tunnel at a monitor.

I thought that others 'in the know' here suggested that the M240 couldn't support an equivalent EVF-4; that required the next generation camera.

Doesn't bother me either way…the EVF-2 suffices for the little I use it.

I could not agree more. But hey!:), that attitude doesn't sell cameras....:p

From time to time I still happily use my Digilux 2, which has an EVF that in comparison to the EVF 2 is like looking through the wheelhouse window of a small fishing boat at the height of the Perfect Storm.:D Does the job though … ;)

I think especially with a Leica most photographers will have seen and composed the photograph before raising the camera to the eye, so all that is left is refining the composition and focusing, for which the EVF2 does an excellent job. I suspect the 'unusable' faction are similar to the DSLR crowd who often tend to stand Dalek like looking through the viewfinder until some sort of composition occurs or something happens.

Steve, that really is an overgeneralisation! :o There are many SLR users who use thier DSLR (or film SLR for that matter) for roles in which the rangefinder is unsuitable. Architecture and macro come to mind. For both these roles, and many others, for these users too, the subject is also carefully considered before putting viewfinder to eye, and the EVF2 is excellent. I would concede that it wouldn't be good for chasing a moving subject (flying bords or sports photography) where its refresh rate is too slow.

OK, if it's an overgeneralisation I'll default to it being a generalisation then. If a photographer doesn't do it they aren't in that particular crowd, so it is an accurate description for those that do. The behaviour comes from the rooted stance offered by a zoom lens. Go to any sort of event and the camera club huddle is clear to see, standing on each others toes with camera's to the eye waiting, and waiting, and waiting......'oh, somebody pressed the shutter, what was he photographing?',.... camera's pan wildly around. A lower quality EVF can cause nausea in such circumstances.:D

As I have the M240 and the EVF, my impression is, it's not to bad, frankly I expected better.

My Fuji X-T1 has certainly a MUCH better EVF, and with Auto focus lenses it's very good.

However I will give you my real impression of MANUAL FOCUSING WITH THE EVF.

After using Leica R for many years especially the SL, R7 and the R8/9 these EVF are ABSOLUTE CRAP.

How SO MANY PEOPLE including MYSELF CAN BE SO F^#@%#$# stupid to be dupid into excepting this

peice of S#@t .

There is only ONE VIEWFINDER, It comes with a mirror.

Everytime I hold and use my Leica reflex models I just want to cry, their viewfinders are so beautiful to view through.

Ken,

What's stopping you from still using your Leica reflex cameras? It's not compulsory to use a camera with an EVF so if you do use one you must have justified the compromise to yourself already mustn't you?:o

As am still using and loving Film, where my first love in photography comes in, I simply love my reflex

Leicas, I feel at home when using them and at the age of 65 I am too set in my ways to change but on

Occasions I do use my Leica M Rangefinder on which I must admit it's a joy to use.

In my view, the EVF is only a compromise to a Leica Reflex viewfinder, it will never replace it.
