A miller Posted February 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just received one from B&H. I was on a waiting list. I havent opened the box and plan to return it. Before i do, i wanted to send a friendly note offering to pass it along to anyone who can't put their hands on one but would like to. PM me if interested. I'll probably return it next week if i don't hear from anyone. I paid full retail plus NY sales tax. Best, adam
Advertisement Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hi A miller, Take a look here If anyone is in the market for a 50mm summicron APO and cant find one. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bill W Posted February 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2015 I was fortunate to get one almost two years ago locally but I was somewhere on the B&H list also. They must have a long waiting list still.
james.liam Posted February 13, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) If QM2 versions with full warranty go for about $6900 in the US, paying list ($8250+tax>>in NYC, $9000) doesn't make much sense. luigi bertolotti Posted February 13, 2015 Share #5 Posted February 13, 2015 QM2? "QM2,3,4 are Leica designations for the quality of ex-demo items released to dealers for sale. QM2 is the best and numbered upwards by decreasing quality". (quote by "spylaw 4" on an old thread)
james.liam Posted February 13, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) You might go blind or mad trying to find what cosmetic 'defect' resulted in the QM2 grading for a given item. The thing you can be certain of from Leica is that no matter the QC designation, they all meet the same mechanical spec standard as OEM 'new'. And with QM2 (am uncertain for 3 or 4), the full warranty is included Enjoy the 20% discount off list price and don't look the proverbial 'gift horse' in the mouth. Bill W Posted February 13, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a certified pre-owned 24 Elmar M and it came with a warranty card from Leica NJ for 1 year of warranty. It is labeled on the boxes a little differently. Are these QM2 or I guess I am asking where do they differ if at all.
james.liam Posted February 13, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Besides the QM2/3/4, I was told by a dealer there are factory refurbished returns. These, when resold, have the shorter 1 year warranty. I do not know how long the QM3 and 4 items are warranted. At one point, the dealer said that he had received demo models and while some carried a 1-year warranty, others had the full duration Leica Passport. He could not discern a rhyme or reason behind it. QM2/3/4? Never heard about a rating from Leica about their own lenses. I thought there was only one level of quality, i.e. the very best. Could you expand on that matter? james.liam Posted February 14, 2015 Share #10 Posted February 14, 2015 In the QC inspection process some will not meet unspecified cosmetic requirements. Absolutely nothing to do with optical performance. Findings in worst case scenarios are subtle. These are then made available to certain select retailers as QM2, 3 or 4 depending on the subjective severity of cosmetic blemish.

james.liam Posted February 14, 2015 Share #12 Posted February 14, 2015 How do you know this so that we can find the same?. Got to know a dealer after several significant buy/sells and he shared a few details that he could (with impunity).
Exodies Posted February 16, 2015 Share #13 Posted February 16, 2015 Could it be that your dealer didn't know and so simply made something up without thinking it through properly? Is it likely that Leica knowingly sells damaged goods? (Undetected defects are not the topic here).
Bill W Posted February 16, 2015 Share #14 Posted February 16, 2015 So I would assume that the discount increases as the "QM" does. If a QM2 is 20% then is a QM3 25% or 30% and so on for the QM4. Why does the designation start at QM2 and not QM1? It would be great if Leica jumped in here and cleared this up. I understand that they monitor this site. indergaard Posted February 16, 2015 Share #15 Posted February 16, 2015 A dealer here has 3 in stock. They've been in stock for many months. After new years the price was increased by about 20% - even on current stock. And you wonder why they never sell...

Prominent, high-volume Leica dealer of long-standing on the West Coast of the US (1st or 2nd in volume). In the past, he's gently nudged me not to to buy when something I will probably want is months in the offing. And he's always been correct. What he sells carries the full Passport Warranty and have never has a singular issue/
