Bill W Posted June 8, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I finally obtained with the wife's blessing a 0.95 Noctilux. It was a one owner never used and included a never used N D filter 64x. At 64x it is darned near black. Other than in bright sunlight on the Noctilux when would one use it? Advertisement Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Hi Bill W, Take a look here Noctilux and neutral Density filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ecar Posted June 8, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2013 Some people like taking pictures of sunspots. Actually, it's only 6 stops, unless I'm mistaken. Must have been a landscape photographer. Long exposures in sunlight? E.g., blurring the water motion on a sunny beach. Not sure why one would want to use a Nocti for that, but maybe he had only one lens? Bill W Posted June 8, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted June 8, 2013 Doing a quick test it is about six stops. Oh we'll, I have a drawer full of filters from over the years and seem to keep buying more.

pedaes Posted June 8, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2013 I thought most of you lucky people with Noctilux liked to use them as they were designed to be used, wide open at .95. To do so on bright days you will need at least a 3x ND, and possibly a 6x if it is very bright. So I wouldn't put it in the drawer just yet. Enjoy your new lens! 01af Posted June 9, 2013 Share #10 Posted June 9, 2013 No—the diameter is different. As a matter of fact, the ND filter I am using occasionally on the Noctilux originally was purchased for use on the Summilux-M 75 mm

enboe Posted June 9, 2013 Share #14 Posted June 9, 2013 Congratulations on the new addition to your collection. Are you shooting on a film or digital body? When shooting both the 50/1.0 and 50/0.95 (not on the same day) on an M9, I found purple fringing/blooming around white highlights when using a Heliopan coated ND filter. I switched to a Leica Polarizer, and a Heliopan polarizer and found the effect went away. No other root cause tests were performed. I hope the information above proves useful. MarkP Posted June 10, 2013 Share #20 Posted June 10, 2013 I would buy her that watch if she would let me have a Porsche Wrong mindset - buy her the watch and then angle for the Porsche. You need to take some risk. No guts. No glory.
