Advertisement Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hi Finnkare, Take a look here I love my M5. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Finnkare Posted May 9, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) ^ The thing hanging from the strap (which says Nikon, btw ) is a Photon Microlight flashlight. It's really handy in low light, especially in a situation where you're aiming at a subject with light on it from a place with no light on you. By pressing the flashlight on the viewfinder illumination window and shining some light you can still see the viewfinder information even though you're in complete darkness. mooky Posted May 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 10, 2009 Boy, you guys make it tuff on a guy who hasn't his M5 any longer. It's still my favorite M camera. The meter system, the 'exact' metering area in the finder, the slightly larger and to me, a better 'feel', and that delightful combined and HUGELY easier to use clustered shutter dial/wind lever/release. I still think it's a masterful design. Though I suppose it can be reasonably true that within a few years later, with smaller circuits and cells that the cell arm would not have been needed. But the clustered controls and the defined metering fields would still be usable. Boy it would have been nice for them to continue forward with the 'brave new design', or at least design elements that made it so unique and easier to use. Eventually I'll have another one, this time it will be a '3 lugger' - maybe in chrome.

hookonclassic Posted October 22, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 22, 2009 The Leica "Orphan" and a "Tanker" due to its size. It is Leica attempt to break free from the mould of earlier M. The first M with built-in TTL metering and ergonomic shutter speed dial, plus ability to see your shutter speed in the view finder. Here is the tanker.

kdemas Posted August 2, 2010 Share #14 Posted August 2, 2010 OK, I thought it was time to wake up this slumbering thread. Now we all know that there are far more M5 users than raise their hand on any forum so I'll lead the charge in showing the camera that others just love to hate. Even though mine does not get the same use as my M7 & 8 it really is a terrific camera. The quietest of all my M's as well! Come on now, show your M5! Here's mine relaxing with a UV-IR Cut filter (as needed on my M8).
vickko Posted August 3, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 3, 2010 Yep, one of my favourite M models. Balances beautifully with the big lenses, e.g. Noctilux, 75 Summilux. Want to buy a 21mm Summilux, and I think it'll fix nicely on an M5. Vick
aesop Posted August 3, 2010 Share #16 Posted August 3, 2010 ...always had a thing for the M5, even though I've never owned one. Great stuff, people - keep 'em coming.
Peter58 Posted August 6, 2010 Share #17 Posted August 6, 2010 My Leica M5 changed the way I photograph since I got it around 2005. I do not post any of my photo's on any of the on line web sites anymore, so I am unable to supply it's image. It's a 2 lug silver/black that is in excellent condition. I purchased mine from KEH.com in the U.S.A., along with a first version 50mm f/1.4 Summilux. This was a great starting place. The shutter is very silent, the viewfinder is excellent, the light meter is intuative to use and the the shutter speed dial is very nice to use and since it overhangs the top plate, I never need to take my eye from the viewfinder to locate and use the shutter speed dial. I feel this camera will last longer than myself and I'm always confident when using it. In fact some of my best photographs came from the M5 and 50 Summilux. I think that's a good enough reason to love my M5. Since then I have added the Elmar 90mm f/4 Collapsible and the Elmar 135mm f/4 both in Leica M mount. After that I purchased all in Leica Screw Mount the Leica Summaron 35mm f/3.5, Summitar 50mm f/2, Voightlander Color-Skopar 28mm f/3.5 and 2 Russian made copies of the Elmar 50mm f/3.5 Collapsible lens that came with a Zorki IIIc and FED IIIg. Glad to see another "I love my M5" thread. -Peter
colin_d Posted August 18, 2010 Share #18 Posted August 18, 2010 Fantastic, since I bought my M5 earlier this year and joined this site I was astounded by the lack of M5 owners posting here, now this . I love my two lug M5. It's my first Leica and I cannot believe how superbly crafted this gem of a camera is, it is made to last longer than a lifetime and I plan on handing mine down to my grandchildren when they eventually arrive and can appreciate the workmanship in it. I can live with only two lenses on my M5, 35mm & 50mm, both feel so right on this body. In a way I enjoy the fact this superior constructed camera was an outcast, there were only 30,000 made, imagine that in this day and age of mass produced disposable rubbish. The lack of interest in it had absolutely nothing to do with its performance, in fact belatedly it is considered well ahead of its time and at last is being recognised as one of the best built of all the M's. The ergonomics of this camera are incredible, everything is in easy reach without taking your eye from the viewfinder, an amazing engireering achievement. Here is mine with a 35mm Lux. Robert J Posted August 19, 2010 Share #19 Posted August 19, 2010 ^ The thing hanging from the strap (which says Nikon, btw ) is a Photon Microlight flashlight. By pressing the flashlight on the viewfinder illumination window and shining some light you can still see the viewfinder information even though you're in complete darkness. Have you thought of making a holder for your light which would fit in the accessory shoe and aim the light at the frameline illumination window?Shades of the Nikon SP frameline illuminator!
