Thanks. I will be calling them. Culver City is close enough for me to drop it off personally. This M2 is in really nice condition and worth keeping up and running.

Wilfredo,

What is up with it? Unless there is a specific problem I'd leave well enough alone. The best thing you can do is use it!

I wouldn't send an older M to Leica, an indy specialist is much less expensive and probably better for the older equipment as they often have spares which aren't in production any longer etc.

No problem with the camera. The viewfinder needs a little cleaning inside, I wish I could do that myself but I would not tamper with taking it apart.

Very wise choice Wilfredo. I like a man who knows his limitations. I have an M6 that sounds as though it has the same issue. When I spoke to Leica UK the man there said that I should ignore it and have it done when it eventually requires a CLAd

My concern is that the glass in the viewfinder will develop fungus, once that happens, from what I understand there is nothing you can do about it. Am I wrong about this?

I, or Leica cannot give an answer to this without seeing it I can only relate the information I was given by Leica UK. In fact I can pass on to you thier other comment which was just get on and use it. So they did not seem at all worried and it didn't seem to be flagging up any concern. By all means drop them an e-mail in the UK they certainly put my mind at rest.

There are very few if any reports of M2's or M of any number getting fungus or mold inside/on/around the view/rangefinder IF it is stored and used properly.

The big problem with the older M's, 2's & 3's, is separation of the prisms and a yellowing. Which not much can be done for either.

True!!! I agree on what´s said. Just keep on using it and it will be ok. Of course age will finally interact, but that was not the problem at the moment. So, just keep on shooting until it really needs the repairshop.

:):):) Micky

Ps The M3+2 are the top of the line. They were once built to be repaired a zillion times. My M2 is from 1958, and I bought it in 1984, and since that, it has been to the repairguy (not Leica) only one single time. No parts were changed, just a bit of fixing and greasing.

Peter Grisalfi at CRR Luton in the UK will rebuild and resilver M2/3/4 prisms. If he's good enough for our Queen Betsy, then he's good enough for me. He's worked on my M2 and a very good job too at reasonable prices. Only problem is a 3 month wait.

I like Steve Choi in Culver City a lot. I sent him a Summicron 35mm v.1 recently for a CLA and the service included a bench photo of the lens completely disassembled  . He did a really nice job, reasonable price, quick turnaround. Highly recommended!

At the very least, I'll be taking the M2 in for a viewfinder cleaning. Everything else seems to be working fine. This camera is at least 50 years old, and it looks really great. I purchased it on E-bay with a case for a little over $600.00. To date it is one of the best Leica values I've purchased :) I love the frame lines!
