marcoma Posted December 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am already on my 2nd lenscap for the Sumicron 35 (ASPH) - it's that rectangular piece of rubber and it just refuses to stay on in a way that a slight brush wouldn't take it off... I've also paid a good amount (collectively) to homeless guys running after me with the cap in their hands after loosing it on the street which is probably the reason that i'm not on number 12 or 13 by now... So the question is: what do you do to make it stick? rubberband around the camera body? Thanks Marco
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Hi marcoma, Take a look here 35 Sumicron Lens cap - how to 'fix' it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2009 i don't use it, simple as that. The hood is protective enough and i put my lenses upside down in the bag, so no need for those caps at all.
trs Posted December 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2009 Probably, not using is the best solution as hood already extends enough. But, I am so used to having it, I just ordered one yesterday to replace mine (for 28mm). My wife saying why I don't order couple. That might be another solution

So the question is: what do you do to make it stick? rubberband around the camera body? Thanks Marco This is part of the Leica plan. You are supposed to lose them periodically and buy new ones. Any attempt to solve this issue would be considered counter-productive to the company profits.
farnz Posted December 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2009 You could buy some black Velcro with the self-adhesive backing, cut 2 very thin strips from it and stick these to the long sides of the front rim of the hood. Then cut slightly wider strips of the hairy part of the Velcro and stick them to the inside of the rubber cap so they match up with the Velcro on the rim of the hood. If you cut the strips quite short, say, 1/4 or 1/2 an inch then the rubber cap will stay on securely but you'll be able to remove it easily. Pete. jlp Posted December 9, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Order it from where? I've lost mine as well just google 'leica summicron 35mm hood cap' and you'll find it at several vendors (albeit rather pricey) part # is 14043 and is the same as the Elmarit 28/2.8 hope that helps, jack

lct Posted December 9, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2009 You might wish to try a string like this. Even HCB used one.
luigi bertolotti Posted December 9, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 9, 2009 I had it, lost it, discovered I wasn't alone..., didn't replace and don't miss it: when carrying with the camera, hood+filter is a sufficient protection, when stored, no hood and classic cap is better. Btw, after losing it, I discovered that I prefer the old Leitz metal hood IROOA, so also the original plastic hood has virtually disappeared in some shelf... wizard Posted December 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 9, 2009 At some point, there will be enough lost caps lying around across the world, such that every person losing one has a fair chance of finding another one . So just keep on buying these little things ... Andy

bill Posted December 9, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 9, 2009 I dropped mine into the sea once. Sat on a rock for 20 minutes watching it wash backwards and forwards on the tide until it was close enough to grab once more... Regards, Bill
wda Posted December 9, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 9, 2009 Order it from where? I've lost mine as well Any authorized Leica dealer will get one for you if it is not in stock at the time. I share the frustration. I have a rule nowadays: when the camera is not in use, the cap is fitted. Before a shoot, I remove it and secure it in a pocket with a flap or zip, until I have finished my shoot.
stunsworth Posted December 9, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 9, 2009 Similar to David. Whatever lens I'm using when I take the camera out of the bag I put the lens cap in my pocket. When I put the camera back in the bag I take the lens cap out of my pocket and put it on the lens.
microview Posted December 10, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 10, 2009 There's an E67 R fromt lens cap somewhere in the grass of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall near Wakefield, UK, if anyone is interested. And another (35 Summicron hood cap) on Primrose Hill North London as of Sunday. Just ordered two more from Robert White's (out of stock at present) so will be £45.02 poorer in a week or so's time:mad:.
peter_n Posted December 10, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 10, 2009 I use a clear or UV filter and hood on every lens, and no caps on any.
LMBSGV Posted December 10, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 10, 2009 I dropped one on Swinging Bridge in Yosemite last winter while taking moonlight photos. It snowed a foot that night so when I went back at sunrise, it was a rather futile attempt to find it. My wife said it cost HOW MUCH?! to replace this plastic rectangle. So when I got a replacement, I also got a generic lens cap holder, used super glue to attach it to the cap, and it’s worked great. Since I do a great deal of photography in outdoor and wilderness locations, it’s nice to have to extra protection.
