  1. Hi all, The battery in my MM1 does not seem to hold a charge. I have my original wall charger which I used to charge all my batteries. I have the original battery as well as 4-5 aftermarket batteries. When I go out for a shoot I always check to see what the charge is and usually it will be slightly less than full. After taking a only few shots many times I get a low battery warning and have to replace the battery with one of my spares. Many times after even fully charging the spares, after I replace them in the camera, they too will give me a low battery warning. This happens with both the original and aftermarket batteries.
  2. just checking in here....from the last post there still doesn't appear to be a solution for using the lens with the lens shade and a filter...am I correct?
  3. tried my 90mm f4 collapsible Elmar on my MM1 today for the first time...only paid about $250 for it from KEH and it's in remarkable condition for it's age even thought they rated it "Bargain" .....looks like previous owners didn't use it much. Not a bad little lens for circa 1955.... 1600 ISO f11 350 sec walking_the_dogs by Peter, on Flickr
  4. I have only owned the MM1 so I can not speak for the 246. MM1 with a couple of my non asph lenses.... 50mm Summilux pre-asph ...let_me_at_him... by Peter, on Flickr ...taking_off... by Peter, on Flickr 35 Summilux pre-asph v.II 1970 mr_softee by Peter, on Flickr Piper by Peter, on Flickr
  5. the 50mm seems to be the lens that I'm most comfortable with....while I understand that it's not a one size fits all, generally speaking if I go out with a 35 or 28 there is always that moment when I wish I had my 50 instead. that being said, my "go to" lens would have to be both my 50 Lux asph and pre-asph lenses. I honestly could live with just those if need be but fortunately I don't have to...
  6. ...just bumping this thread Has anyone heard anything from Leica concerning the hood/filter issue?
  7. Yes, the hood fits perfectly on my 50Lux II pre-asph which is very nice because I purchased it used without one. If I may ask, what is a LHSA MP3? As far a smoothness, for me at least, the nice big focus ring as opposed to the focus tab is a welcome change. It is so much more natural for me to focus with it and probably accounts for the perceived smoothness...
  8. ...it arrived this afternoon! This is the first Leica product that I have ever bought new....I never buy new but in this case I couldn't find any used examples so I was forced to pay full price for it. I was also surprised to get a new 3 year warranty which is nice to have....I never had that before. I don't have a lot of time tonight but first impressions are that the Black Chrome is really beautiful, it looks great on my silver MM1 and it should look equally beautiful on my M8 which is a black chrome model. The aperture rings clicks beautifully and the focus ring is smooth and the travel is much shorter than my 50Lux II non-asph. I also like the fact that if focuses closer. This is a very well built piece of glass. I am a mechanical person and I will tell you that the tolerances on this lens are absolutely perfect. There is no unnecessary play anywhere. It is built like a fine watch. Will post photos at a later date.
  9. I don't have my Black Chrome edition yet but it will be arriving in a couple of days. I understand the problem and I'm pretty good with my hands and solving stuff like this. I would think that a simple stop-gap solution, for me at least, would be to pick up a UV filter and machine the front of it to the proper thickness to accommodate the hood. This would not solve the problem for those that use multiple standard thickness filter AND the supplied hood. Personally I use a UV filter on all my lenses mainly for protection and rarely actually use the hood. The ultimate solution is that since the hood was NOT designed for standard filters in mind it should be redesigned accordingly and Leica should supply owners with the corrected hood. I will post an update once I receive my lens.
  10. Is there any noticeable difference in your eyes between the E46 asph and the Retro E43 asph? I have the 50Lux II pre-asph and it is a wonderful lens...the below images actually had very little PP. I can't wait to compare it to my arriving Retro Black Chrome Edition... 11. ...beautiful! I don't use filters...maybe I should try one of two? Not that I need to justify my purchase... , but the main reason I wanted this lens is that I'm a 50mm shooter, I had a Nikon F2 back in the 70's and it was pretty much all I used. I will still keep my 50Cron and 50Lux II pre-asph The other main reason is that this lens uses a focus ring instead of the tab. I really don't like tabs. I find the ring is easier to focus more accurate especially if you're turning the camera from landscape to portrait.
  12. As if I haven't been spending too much money on Leica glass this year ...I have been lusting after this lens for quite some time and gave in to the seduction tonight...will be arriving in 2 days just in time for the weekend.... I'm stoked https://www.leicastoresf.com/store/product/p210000005330

  14. somehow the above image got deleted...? I'll repost here. street portrait by Peter, on Flickr
  15. another one from the MM1 / 50mm Summilux II pre-asph...I don't know how much sharper the asph version is but I'm perfectly happy with this. I also prefer that this version does not have the finger focusing tab.... The aperture ring is a little stiff on it between F1.4 and F4 so my seller (Adorama) agreed to reimburse me for a full CLA...great seller and service. I highly recommend them. it's on it's way to Youxin Ye for a full CLA....can't wait to get it back. street portrait by Peter, on Flickr
