So when you move your thumb op and down you realize that on this one it's from left to right. Not a big thing but it throws you out of your thoughts as you have to look at the camera. roblumba Posted November 25, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 25, 2006 Funny, my 1D MarkII get people saying, woooow, that's a really big camera. But they don't ask how much. Their jaw hits the floor and I have plenty of time to take the picture. But in many cases, people recognize it as a common PJ camera and think that I'm with the press or something. When I was at the SF zoo with my 70-200 during lion feeding, crowds of people stepped aside so that I had a clear shot. That was really helpful in that situation. Sometimes people with their P&S step aside when they see me with mine. It's really interesting and perhaps you can consider it an advantage at events where crowds of people can block a shot from the show. Typically, I've raised the camera, waiting for the perfect composition of people and expressions, and just when it's about to become perfect, someone see's the camera and moves aside, ruining the composition. At events, sometimes it's only 1 or two people so I just tell them please don't step aside because it throws off the composition of the photographs and we want you in there. Depends on your shooting situation, sometimes the big camera helps and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you can adjust for it, like telling them it's okay. WolfgangK Posted November 25, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 25, 2006 Have someone hold a Canon 1D(whatever) with the 70-200IS, and then, while everyone is gawking and ducking at that, you'll get some fine wide-eyed reaction shots when i was in greece, one morning i went to a local market in a very small village. at that time of the day i was the only tourist there. at that time i had a canon eos 5 with the 70 - 210 mm tele. i took about 100 fotos and only once a local trader asked me not to make a foto. all the other peolple were very friendly when they realised that i wanted to make a foto. sometimes there was an eye contact an instant before i made the foto. like that i checked if it was ok. however here in germany things are a bit different. making fotos on the street as i have done in greece is really tough sometimes. you are intruding in my private sphere . . . Oh dear, and next years One Challenge is in Berlin, should be a challenge indeed! Whatever happened to those cameras designed to look like pocket watches? Did they morph into mobile phones?
