  1. Contemplating a Diglux 2 (in addition to my D-Lux4) or even swapping the latter for the former mainly because it has a viewfinder But as the Digilux "only" takes SD (not SDHC apparently) and Multi-media Cards, just want to be sure these are not going to be phased out before, say 2020.
  2. hello, as many of you, my dream would be a M8 (or the eventual M9 to come). unfortunately, my wallet doesn't share this view, so i'll be waiting a couple of years for this investment. however, i was thinking about a digilux 2 or 3 (second-hand probably) to taste the famous Leica style... i use currently a Canon 450D and wonders how these Leica/Panasonic old production compare with my actual camera. please share your view on this. many articles on the web reviewed the Digilux 2 or 3, but it was at the launching date and comparisons focused on the other cameras available at that time. we know digital world moves very fast. So, are these cameras still up to date, taking into account it's not so important to have so many pixels and 1600 iso capabilities in many occasions ? i like the fact to use a ring for aperture on Digilux lenses, since this is the control i used the most on my actual Canon. thanks for your comments.
  3. I was hoping to get a thread going to collect Digilux 2 users best practices for obtaining maximun quality with maximum print size. I normally print to 8 x10 inches and they are stunning(around 240 dpi). Have others been able to get to 11 x 14 or even 13 x 19 and still maintain quality? What are your methods. I was experimenting last night with 13 x 19. They best quality was to just drop the dpi towards 180 rather than upsize at 300 dpi. Still I notice some degradation from 240 dpi. I have not framed one and hung it on the wall to see if at normal veiwing distance it really shows, I will do that today. Anyone care to share their thoughts and experience? I enjoy 8 x 10 and that is fine for me, but I would like to print 11 x 14 or larger for clients/friends with maximum detail. Regards, John
  4. Hi D2 aficionados! I am planning to buy an external flash unit to use with my D2 at indoor events. I know that the Leica SF 24d is the one recommended, but I was wondering if other Leica flash units like the CF 22 and SF 20 would work in TTL mode with the D2. Ideally I would love to use the same flash unit with my D3 as well. Thanks, Carlos
  5. My friend is selling a Leica Digilux 2 and I am pretty interested to buy it. Looking forward to hear Leica Digilux 2 owners views and their experiences with this camera. If anyone owns, ever tried or has input to give me on how this camera produces outdoor portraits, please share. Thanks in advance.
  6. I just got this one back a month ago with a new sensor and don't want to send it back yet. Any ideas..... will it work ok for all around shooting in macro mode. The macro symbol only goes away when I switch to manual focus mode. Is there a reboot/reset trick? Thanks, John
  7. I am a happy D2 user for a month now. Just wondering how long my D2 will last. The sensor of my D2 has never been replaced (sNr 3011xxxxx). My biggest fear is that Leica will run out of sensors on the day I get the broken sensor symptom. Will Leica replace the sensor free of charge if I send it in now, before it is broken? Would you recommend sending it in? Or would you wait for the inevitable to happen?
  8. First of all, I would like to thank all Digilux 2 user on this forum. Without you I would never consider buying a 5 year old 5MP camera. NEVER. I took the camera for a walk this weekend and I am so impressed with the JPEG output! I am just speechless. From portraits, to architecture, to low-light shots this camera never stops to amaze me. I dare to say its output is better looking than the ones produced by my 10MP D-lux4 and on par with the ones produced by my D3. I did a series of tests comparing the 3 cameras side-by-side and I am confident to say that. I am so happy with the D2 that I bought yesterday B&H's last in stock Lumix Wide-Lens converter yesterday and ordered a Luigi's strap (which looks amazing in this camera). I know I am not the only one praising this camera, specially at this forum, but I just wanted to share with you my happiness. Here are some shots I took during the weekend: NYC The photo number 12 was shot in RAW at ISO 400 and was the only one I applied noise reduction, using Dfine 2. All the others had none or little post processing like levels, contrast and brightness. Thanks again for inspiring and encourage me to buy this little gem. All my best, Carlos
  9. I just got a macbook, one of those aluminium things and now everything looks different. Good but different. Is there anything that needs to be set up or calibrated, fine tuned for that leica feeling:D I want to get aperature (?). Saw a bundle of aperature and nik complete for a reasonable price. If i get the bundle do I still need photoshop? or will elements do? Thanks for any tips.
  10. Took my D2 to a wedding as a point and shoot last weekend. Got spotted straight away by the hired pro with "Oh someone is still using a Leica!! Shame they dropped so far behind everyone technically speaking" Anyway the whole thing became quite a running joke for everyone else, as this pro made sure that he got a shot of everything I pointed at and ended with him presenting his equipment to everyone at the dinner table wanting to compare results in a mine is bigger than yours fashion. But more to the point, I usually photograph non moving subjects. Here I tried to capture somethings very quickly and forgot how slow the autofocus is. Shame. I can only recommend to focus manually. It is faster and more satisfying. Apart from that I still try to follow Thorstens routines of shooting 3.
  11. Hi does anyone know how the EVF on a V-Lux 1 compares with the one on the Digilux 2? I'm considering a Digilux 2 and have little experience of EVFs - I've tried the one on a V-Lux 1 and wondered if the Digilux 2 was brighter/larger - better in any way? Or are they all pretty much the same. Thanks Ian
  12. just got my D2 back from being recovered and, as promised, here is a picture... it is even nicer than i fantasized !!
  13. Hi guys! Since I cannot sleep and it is already friday in NY, I decide to post a fun test to start the weekend! Below you will find 3 pictures I have just taken out of my window with a Digilux 3 (14-50mm f/2.8), a Digilux 2 and a D-lux 4. I won't tell which camera produced each image now, because I would like you to take a guess! All pictures are JPEGs straight from the camera and have the following characteristics: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 4 seconds ISO 100 Focal length (35mm): 28mm I think it will be fun! You can see the pictures in high resolution here: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2546/3931034188_528b43d7db_b.jpg (Picture 1) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2492/3930252909_9ca1b5c533_b.jpg (Picture 2) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3506/3930253005_80f80c88b0_b.jpg (Picture 3)
  14. Hello, today I work with a Leica M8 and a Hassel with a digital back. For several reasons sometimes I still need my Digilux 2. For special occasions when I need to be faster, even more quiet or simply because I can feel that Digilux 2 will render the best jpegs with no need for raw files. I just found a problem in my Digilux 2, I tried to find this issue in the forum but I couldn't. The camera just do not turn off. Everytime I turn the button to off position, or the camera automaticaly try to turn off all I get is the red dot on the EVF or Lcd. The only way to finish the process is taking the battery off. I was looking for a way to reset the software or something like that, but there is no firmware available to reinstall. It should be simple and I would like to not send the camera for service. Any advice? Thanks. http://www.christianmaldonado.com http://www.schoelereditions.com
  15. I currently own a Digilux 2. My only frustrations are maximum focal length (90mm in 35mm equiv), resolution of sensor (OK for 11x14 print) and max ISO (400). As photographers tend to do, I find myself wondering if a Digilux 3 would offer noticeable improvements in those areas, so I am asking those who have used both models to opine. Rich
  16. After a couple of months of great D-Lux 4 ownership, I have officially caught the Leica Bug. Whilst I am not yet in the position to drop a couple of grand on an M8 (much as I would love to) I have been watching with interest the prices of used Digilux-2 as I have seen some great images produced out of them. However with some of the reaching around £500 on fleabay I have been a little put off as this camera will be a bit of a punt for me, and probably only used for many of my urban exploration projects where I dont want to take the D700 (bit to expensive) or the D-Lux 4 (bit to fragile). Today a friend from work mentioned that Harrisons in Sheffield had one in for £400, so off I went at lunch time. The example they have comes with two original batteries, and the gorgeous brown leather Leica bag, the only issue I could see was a single dead pixel. The camera comes with a year warranty with Harrisons, so after a chat about that I had already puchased the D-Lux 4 and the grip from them they came up with what I think is a good deal.....£350 including the bag. I think this was a good deal, and I look forward to learning how to use it...yet another learning curve, the D-Lux4 is my first P&S from Nikon DSLRs that I use professionally....lets see what can be produced from the Digilux 2...hopefully I wont be disapointed
  17. We've talked about testing it, two Digilux 2 cameas side by side. Is there any difference? Well, today Itaped two cameras together and did some test shots: leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Sites - Leica Digilux 2 sample photos and tests (as well as Panasonic DMC-LC1) - Page 3
  18. Hallo liebe Fotofreunde! Was meinen Sie? Ihr Guzi 1956
  19. I am looking for either a Diglux 2 or 3. I know the 3 has interchangeable lens and more meagpixels. What are other differences? Recomemdations? Would you choose a 2 over a 3 or a 3 over a 2?... Thoughts? Thanks for your time, Lynn
  20. hello there I am hoping to take photos automatically at long intervals, with my D2 mounted on a tripod, unattended. I cannot see how to fire the D2 except to push down on the button, so I am not sure what kind of intervalometer to look at. Has anyone done this? and can you give me some guidance? much appreciated if you can.
  21. Hi, I am new this forum - new to Leica. I used to use Nikon F2 for years then Kodak DCS 760 but too heavy and bulky with lots of after processing of raw. So I read the threads for D2 and decided to have one even the short falls and bought a sensor replaced one from Pop Flash. Their service was excellent!. Now my question is a filter on this beautiful lens. I ususally do not put filter on the lens but this is a beautiful one and looks susceptable to contact and marks on the glass. The size of the filter is 69mm which is hard to get one. Would it effect picture if I put 69 to 67 adjustment ring and fit 67mm filter on it? If anyone fit a filter on D2, please share your opinion. Thanks,
  22. Any thoughts or experiences with respect to image comparison between the two?? I'm itching to sell the Digilux 2 to get a D-Lux 4. Thanks for your insights. - Michael
  23. hello i post very few messages here, but wanted to record this for reference. i have a Digilux-2 (3 years old) that spends its life in a glass case or a very nice bag when being used. i have been very cautious with it, as it is the most expensive camera i own. well, i went on vacation last week and (due to my clumsiness) it fell off my shoulder onto a *solid concrete* floor. it landed on the rear right hand corner (above the on-off switch) and it got dented. i thought for sure it was ruined. (20 years ago i dropped a SLR camera off a bed onto a *carpeted* floor and it never worked again !! ). i am most happy to report that, despite the dent, the D2 works just fine. i am also very relieved that i can take it out and use it and stop worrying about hurting it..... and have decide NOT to repair the dent and leave it as a battle scar reminder that this camera was built to be used, not kept in a glass case. regards, daveleo
  24. As I stated in another thread, my beloved D2 failed yesterday. Only vertical stripes: sensor died. Appearantly Leica is replacing them under warranty because the Sony sensors fail. I read somewhere that only some batches have this annoying problem. I can't find out any more. So here I go: mine is serial 2990xxx. What's yours? Or is yours still OK? If so, what's the serial?
  25. Hi I am new to the forum although have been reading threads and replies for a while and very interesting they are. Any way I have a slight problem and hope some one can solve it form. I have a Digilux 2 great camera and have owned it for approx. 4 years. A couple of months ago got a Digilux 3 great camera a even though I haven't had time to use it much yet. Anyway my problem is I like to use the camera with aperture wide open when possible but it seems when I set aperture at its lowest as I increase the focal length of the lens so does the f No. increase on the display. I am talking about the kit lens supplied with the camera. Surly there must be a way of fixing the lens at its lowest because I can do it on the Diglux 2 and the other DSLR I have.
