1. Which of the latter two are available now, new, with full Mfg. warranty? That's what I thought... :)

2. I think a case can be made that the M-A is the only fully mechanical Leica now being made. And a lovely camera it is too.

Regards,

s-a

That's true. You can buy / replace several M2/M6 for the price of a MP if you have problems with it though.

The gnomes are currently busy with mine...

Nice, what are you getting?

With mine, I had a broken film transport (completely locked up), had still the old DX reader and therefore decided if those things need fixing, why not order the whole menu.

This M7 got a complete rebuild with a few modifications and it works and feels better than it ever did. I also had it fine calibrated with a complete set of lenses in for repair as well and had a Motor-M specifically matched to this camera.

It is now the rangefinder equivalent of this camera:

Wow, big lens ....

And these Neopan 400 are not available anymore. Anyhow I am shooting with Acros 100. :)

I always liked Tri-X best and only stocked on a big bulk of Neopan when Tri-X prices around here soared (I could get two rolls of Neopan for one of TX400).

Neopan is a nice film up to ISO800, it does ok @ ISO1600 too but I like TX better pushed that far.

You're right about Tri-X in push processing (or HP5+ or RPX-400). A classic combination is Diafine 2-bath with Tri-X 400 E.I. 1000-1600.

The popularity of Neopan 400 was always less and Fuji killed the film already when they discontinued the 120 roll film version.

I have a Black M7 0,58 and one of my favorite lenses is the 28mm Elmarit. For the C.V. SWH 15mm-M and Elmarit 21mm I have a C.V. zoom 15-35mm VF. Further I have a 50mm Summicron and a 75mm Summarit. A SF24 flash and some Heliopan filters makes the set complete together with a Luigi half case. So far hundreds of films without any problem.

I have a Black M7 0,58 [...]

My 35mm Summilux is virtually welded to a .58 viewfinder on an M7. An M7 with .72 handles the rest but if I would stop being stingy, I'd get a .85 for the 75mm. :)

I hate changing lenses. Being a former daily news photographer I do not mind carrying three or more cameras.

Well, it is now on its way back for the fifth time - yes, really. When returned for the fourth time it was agreed with CS that it would be exchanged. An unfortunate break-down in internal CS communications then seemingly took place due to my contact taking a vacation. I won't go into detail here of what has transpired over the last month, but my patience and loyalty to Leica products has been severely tested. Luckily a solution has now been reached and a replacement camera will be sent to me after Easter (my choice, as there is not enough time for one to reach me before I go on holiday). I will refrain from saying more at the moment...

Well, Wetzlar CS are as good as their word - the replacement black M7 arrived this afternoon. A fine looking camera indeed! My faith in Leica and CS now fully restored. Much kudos to them for grasping the nettle and taking the necessary positive action to resolve a very long-running problem.

Hope to run a test roll and develop it in the next few days.

I wish you all luck with your new Leica M7. At the moment my second Zorki-6 body is in complete revision. But no problem I have another refurbished one and a Kiev-4AM (Contax bayonet) as extra back up range finder. For the rest I sold all my FSU gear. But my M7 is my favorit!

Mmm, IMO this is a better equivalent of the M7, especially with a Pentax K50 mm f1.2:

The Leica M7 was my first Leica. Since then, I've had (for a variety of reasons), an X2, M8, Monochrom, M(240). The only one that I have and would not consider parting with is the M7. Perfect size, weight and the essence of photography and nothing more.

I sent my 13 yr old M7 off to Leica Ginza in March to have a few things changed....the MP-styled levers, a leather replacement, conversion to optical DX reading, but most of all was the engraving of my dad's signature as he passed away last year. I doubt my digital Leicas would last so thought the M7 would remain in the family passed onto the next generation.

I finally got my M7 back an hour ago (6 months!) and am very happy with the work they've done on it.

What a wonderful thing to do and what a beautiful camera.
