I consider the Leica M7 to be the pinnacle of Leica engineering.

It is the best Leica ever made. I don't understand the fussing about the older Leica's let's face it the Leica M7 is the best.

Yes it is not fully manual but it is the best film Leica ever made. In the future it will be a very sought after Leica. It is exceptional in image capture. it's electronic shutter is second to none.

Yes the older Leica's are superb but let's face it the M7 is in a class by it;s self.

I have found that that images from the Leica M7 with my Leica lens are much sharper and that undefinable feeling in the photograph is there where it isn't with my Nikon D700 and Nikon lens

I enjoy the older Leica's they are superb instruments of photography but the Leica M7 is the best of the Leica's

Perhaps you meant 'fully mechanical'? Set the M7 to anything other than Auto and in operation it is no different to an MP, as shown below (other than the direction of rotation of shutter speed knob to 'match' the red arrows).

Hi folks, I'm an avid fan of the M7 and have been enjoying reading your posts! Here's mine, equipped with an A-A strap, Leica grip and RRS plate. Right now I've got Fuji Superia 1600 in it, but am usually using Ilford Delta 400, HP5 and XP2. Thanks!

Yes, I know it looks like that, but I use every accessory ;)

Off topic, but my favorite accessory on my M7 is actually Tom Abrahamsson's soft shutter release in the "The Spirit of Mr B" theme.

here

The late Mr B (Barnac) was Tom's beautiful Tabby, and the proceeds from the softie went to the BC-SCPA. Mr B was a real overachiever:

I used to have the Thumbs Up, but found it was loosening the hot shoe, so I opted for the grip and love it.

I have Really Right Stuff plates on all bodies now - they just make tripod mounting so quick.

The A-A is indeed a loud accessory, but I love red :)

Benny,

4xM7 ! I can understand 2, one for slide one for B&W. I can understand adding an M2 or M3 or MP. I'm not sure why 4 M7s unless you shoot with a wide range of lenses and want to have the correct focal length ready. But still 4xM7 and lenses is one heavy bag.

21,35,50,90mm lenses for a wedding shoot perhaps? Or 35 & 50mm 2x for B&W and Slide maybe that's what you're doing. Still heavy bag to carry. I struggle with MP & M7 for TMAX and Provia.

I like the look of M7 with MP controls as the shutter speed dial is like a large MP dial with grippy milled edge. The M7 in Army Green and silver lenses look very special. I can't tell the mix you have in the B&W shot above.

Thanks for sharing,

Lincoln

I've been wanting to do that, but I keep putting it off like so many things. I'm looking for a nice beige (in the vein of the Hermes). Any tips?

Check out Camera Leather, who offers the leather only and a recovering service. Some people have actually bought the leather and sent it with camera to Leica for their recovering, but it seems Camera Leather does a nice job.

M7 .58 finder and 50mm Rigid Summicron
How do you (and others) find using a 50mm lens with the 0.58x finder? I wanted to get an M7 in this viewfinder magnification. I don't have (or desire) a lens longer than 50mm, so it seems a natural choice, but wouldn't want to get it and find that my 50s aren't really unusable on the camera.

I've used this combination without problems in the past. In fact my first Leica M gear was a 0.58x M6TTL and a 50 Summicron combination and I was as happy as Larry with it. However, having used the standard 0.72x and 0.68x finders exclusively for the last eight years or so I think I'd now find a 50 with the lower mag finder unsatisfactory. IMO the 0.58x is perfect for 35mm (lovely uncluttered frameline) and shorter focal lengths. I think it comes down to what focal length you use most and whether you routinely wear glasses or not. If a 50mm is your 'standard' I'd say the 0.58x probably isn't for you.
